We are having a Thunder Storm at the moment, and Merlin is in a state of Panic, I have given him a Calmex tablet and a mixture to try to calm him down. He does this everytime we have loud noises of anysort. At the moment I have to watch him if he goes outside as he would try to run away. There is really nothing I can do for him except sympathy for him. As it is belting down with rain our mornings walk will be very late. The other three are okay and will eat their breakfast but Merlin will not eat or drink when he is in this panic mode. I will put on some music to see if that helps him. He has gone onto his bed in the back small room that he has decided is his bedroom. Mickey is still fast asleep on his bed in my bedroom, whilst Menta and Kelly are both snoring in the front room. All three Greyhounds do not like walking and getting wet in the rain, if I did take them to the park they would soon want to be back in the Dog Wagon out of the rain even with their waterproof warm coats on.

Poor Merlin no advice I'm afraid, all 4-legged ones who have walked through our doors have been fine with storms and fireworks most thankfully. Must be just awful when they're frightened

Hope the storm has passed. We used to make a small 'den' for our old girl under the dining room table, as she was petrified of storms (this was before crates).

Well the thunder storm eventually disappeared East, so we were able to get a quick walk, I noticed that when the thunder storm had disappeared Merlin decided his breakfast was too nice to miss eating. However we just got back home from our walk and it started pouring down again and we have had another batch of thunder. I also noticed whilst on our walk Merlin was limping on his left front leg, he had a piece of thorn bush stuck in one of his pads, on removing the pad bled for a while, but is okay now. They were cutting the grass yesterday at the park went too close to the bushes and broke the grass cutter, the person was trying to fix it for about 3 hours yesterday afternoon. Merlin in the wars today, Paniccing again and has gone to his bed now the second batch of thunder has passed, but it is still raining. We are due for another batch later on this afternoon.
Menta, Mickey-Finn and Kelly are okay in these Thunder Storms, but they do not like getting wet even with their coats on, as soon as it feels like it is going to rain they turn around to go back to our Dog Wagon and back home. My first Greyhound Jagger use to shout back at the thunder telling it to go away.

Just come back home after taking the three Greyhounds for their second walk as Menta decided she preffered to stay sleeping at home after the small walk this morning. We are getting affected by windy conditions at the moment and the sky looks full of stuff to throw down at us. The next two days do not look too good neither. It is August, high summer I have been told. The yellow ball in the heavens keeps trying to come through. Oh well another month without using the caravan. Next weeken Friday to Sunday is the Pontardawe High Summer Festival, think I will give that a miss and just walk my Hounds as usual.

Hi Ted Try your TTouch daily on Merlin and the others, lots of calming ttouches especially on his feet and legs oh and ear and mouthwork too. Use the wraps on him or try the thundershirt tho I suggest people try a child's Tee shirt first and if that helps then splash out on the thundershirt as they are dear especially if they don't help. Lucy greyhound is improving with the ttouches, she was awful when I first had her now she will at least go out into the garden in the dark but comes back in when she hears a bang ... but an improvement. Take care Julie
