Do you take your dogs to the Groomers, if not how do you keep the areas around their eyes and mouths tidy. Barty gets food all in his beardy bits around his mouth which then forms sticky clumps. I do cut these off but it is difficult as he turns his head a makes himself into a C shape. The same when I try and trim around his eyes. Obviously I don't want to catch him with the scissors and wonder if anyone has any tips .In general he loves to be groomed and I use the Furminator and or brush on him most days as he gets very scruffy and tangled when it rains or is frosty .

Hiya, we do have a few rough coats come in for a bath, blow dry and trim where I work. They don't really need much else other than a good brush and hey presto they look bootiful. What I will say is be very careful to say that you only want the eyes, mouth (whatever you want) trimmed as we have heard awful stories where groomers have cut everything off the poor dog. If its just a mouth and eye trim you want I'm sure your local groomer can do just that for you.

I take Ben to the groomers once a year for the full works - he hates it!!!
I cut off the grotty bits and the long hair around his eyes myself.

Try standing over him if you can (straddling him ) - with his bum against something so he cant back away hold muzzle and trim, that's what i do with mine.
Tbh its very rare i have to trim my dogs eyes or beard, Layla full deerhound gets a good going over with a coat king occasionally and molly beddie x i either use the rake or just a pin brush occasionally.
Both get fed partly soaked dry food and occasionally raw, never get much of a problem of food in their beards - their eyes i clean these daily to remove any gunk.

My rough coat sometimes gets a bit grubby and knotted around her mouth. I use a very coarse (horse) mane comb followed by a normal plastic gent comb. TBH prevention is much easier and I tend to comb through her beard every couple of days to stop it becoming grotty. Nothing wrong with using a bit of soap and water on the beard if you have to. I feed her dry food dry and mixed with a half tin of Chum in loaf. this is less messy and also keeps her teeth clean. Why would you want to trim his eyes?

I use a furminator on Jess and just a soft brush around her face. She's great at dunking her beard in her water dish and then licking her beard clean so there's not often a problem

A good brush daily with a bristle brush keeps Dottie's face nice and clean I won't say she likes it, but she tolerates it now ;D Emma x

All of mine are combed and brushed almost every day, it seems to do the trick. I never trim them, although Ali in the past has been hand-stripped (by me) and fully clipped by the groomer, but her hair is a nightmare, very fine and her skin is sensitive so I may in future just keep her clipped for her comfort.

My advice is to not have one! The Seamus creature looks odd with his daft hairy chops and just loves to dunk his beard in water/mud/peanutbutter/tea/poo/decaying creatures and anything else disgusting you could care to mention. My smooth coats are perfect and wouldn't dream of such nonsense

Arthur is a nightmare for getting knotty and he HATES being brushed. I really need to buy some bird of prey gauntlets to protect my arms as he bites hard I am brave however and brush him every day otherwise he gets into a huge mess. I brush the fluff around his face with a hair brush and this keeps it under control. I never cut around his eyes though. I could never take him to a grooming parlour as he would be miserable, he is weary of strangers

If I took Barty to a Grooming Parlour they would be miserable , ;D he loves people but is such a numpty , he squirms and wriggles and mouths when you go near his mouth but doesn't hurt at all.

Linda - we have a small company called groom room come out, they're based in the LE2 area but travel. They were wonderful with Bobby who hairy and had no problems clipping Sonia and Daley's claws (whilst they were awake) - drop mum a Message if you want their number

Bobby, our bridge boy was a hairy, and I would go after him with a damp flannel if he had fod hanging around his beard.
He was very good though and would let me trim him with scissors around his face - it took ages.
Kate is right about the 'Groom Room', it's a transit van which they've converted the inside to a mobile grooming parlour and they are really good, and very reasonable. The chap only charged me a fiver for clipping their claws and he had a really patient way with dogs, my two just let him get on with it.
The Groom Room: 01162 787165 - their prices were reasonable, but they do get booked up a fair way in advance.
The chap who came last time was saying he has a greyhound 'client' who has an annual bath, so he seems experenced with them, and was really gentle with ours.

Thanks for the advice and the groomer's details. I would love to have him properly groomed just to give him a tidy up .
