We wash William about once a month, he has a persistant skin condition which means we use a product from the vet, however I also have an old flannel for him as he's keen on sticking his head in the bushes where others have wee-wee'd and there's no kisses on the noggin when he smells like a urinal, so I use a damp flannel to wipe his head and face. He also has a bad scar on his face which he was grumpy about people touching at first, (a racing injury we think) so we use the flannel as a de-sensitiser and it has worked, he doesn't mind at all now.

Hmmmm... bathed Mace (saluki X) once. Everyone involved has vowed never to speak of it again. You dared to wash a saluxi X ?? ;D ;D ;D I've usually done a good scrubadub when a new dog arrives home to get the 'kennel' smell of them After that it's only if necessary....the trick is to get a non-roller On the odd occasion when it's been necessary it's out in the garden with big trugs of warm water and baby shampoo in summer, and that 'wrestling match with drowned rat' thing in winter. Not recommended. ;D Like this.... Shannon being miserable.... Anyone else want to share miserable hound pix?? ;D

We hardly need to wash Ginger (advantages of long legs) but we do have one of those baby top-and-tail bowls for washing feet that have stood in smelly stuff (or in winter and the council have put salty sand on the pavements). These bowls are not very high sided and make it easy to get Ginger to put his foot in one half for soapy then other half for rinse.

Never bathed any of ours in all the years of having them. They never smell except a bit if they are wet from the rain and they don't do much rolling so wet wipes and a towel are all we have ever needed.

Flo-Jo gets bathed once every 3 months when she goes to the salon, she is a bit of a princess and goes for a pampering session gets bathed, nails done, ears glands, full groom and brushed.
Maybe a bit excessive for a greyhound, but she needs her nails done every 3 months and it doesn't cost much more to get the lot done. Besides everyone comments on her coat, its a shiny black and she never sheds we have no hair around the house at all due to her beauty treatment which is a added bonus.

My Flynn was visiting his "cousin" this weekend. Apparently a skunk also came to visit. Neither dog seems to have received a direct hit, but must have received some. He's a bit stinky even though he's back home, so thinking it wasn't just the house that got hit.

Over the years with 4 boxers, 2 crossbreeds and 7 greyhounds; apart from when they are filthy the only time I have showered mine was if their skin was bad.
My grand total for 13 dogs over 20 years amounts to less than 10 baths and 4 of those have been in the last three months because Redge has bad scurvy.

On the very rare occasions when Bud and Nancy have a bath, I use buckets of warm water in the garden with a big car wash sponge to gently wet and then rinse them after shampoo. It isn't as startling as a jug of water and they do quite like it, especially the treats!

Surprised that people hardy bath their dogs, In my experience, and my first Greyhound, Alex hardly cleans himself, and being a boy he will wee over his front legs.
I would ideally like to bath him once a month, but winter times I will most probably bath him twice..

Kevin (greyhound) probably gets washed once in a (summer) blue moon. He was bathed when we got him home from kennels to get the kennel smell off him and help shift some kennel coat. Since then we have probably done it once or twice in the summer when it is warm enough to do with the hose. It was the same with Tallulah really.
Florence (saluki x) on the other hand seems to be a mud magnet and is certainly not a saluki princess!!! She not only loves a good pile of mud to leap through but is also a keen roller. Her very soft fur also means the mud doesn't dry up and brush/fall off, instead it bothers her and itches. As a result over the winter we found she was getting bathed a couple of times a week when the weather was very bad. She even got bathed on Christmas Day after she took a trip through a pig farm!!!
