We have a 5 yo male neutered whippet greyhound cross who has lived with a border collie for the last four years. He's playful, loves other dogs and was the boss in his relationship with the collie. He's bigger than a whippet but quite slightly built.
Our collie recently passed away, she's very much missed.
We're considering adopting an ex-racer. I thought that a female would be the best option. I am concerned out the potential difference in size and whether our existing dog would feel threatened by a bigger hound on his patch.
Welcome any thoughts on whether this will work, and what the potential pitfalls may be.
We could just get a whippety puppy but I'd rather take in a rescue if possible.

Hi,
Personally I would say rescued greyhound over a puppy all day long! Please bear in mind though that rescues are limited under the current regulations, and so, by extension is rehoming.
A good rescue will advise you, help and support you with a new arrival.
One of mine is wary of dogs bigger than him (and he's a 26" bull lurcher🙄), he loves little dogs and yet is quite happy walking shoulder to shoulder with a friend's taller greyhound. We are calm and relaxed so he is. I would have no qualms introducing a new sighthound to our household. I'd be more bothered about a small excitable dog!

Thanks for the advice.
I'm taking Milo to see some Greyhounds today, there's a female who might be suitable. I'll see how he reacts.

Went to see a female greyhound today, she growled at Milo the moment she saw him.
Fortunately the girl in the next kennel had just arrived, she was smaller than the girl I'd gone to see. Milo was a little nervous at first but after a few quick play bows they seemed relaxed together.
We pick her up the weekend after next.

Thanks, we have a week and a bit to prepare. She has to have her stitches out after being spayed.

I would definitely recommend you read the thread in this section called 'So you have your new hound home'.
