I have been researching getting a greyhound for over a year now, but the one question I still don’t have a definite answer to is: can a greyhound be left alone during the day? I work 8 hours a day, but my daughter would be able to come home at lunch and sit with the dog for about 30 minutes and let it out to do its business. I’ve heard greyhounds just sleep for most of the day and the majority of greyhounds are happy being left alone for several hours a day. Of course I would be giving him toys to entertain him such as Kongs, LickiMats etc. Any advice or suggestions?

If you get your hound from a reputable rescue, they will know which dogs would cope happily with this set up. Many slightly older dogs which we have had, would have been happy with this as long as someone lets the dog out at lunchtime for a wee, amble round the garden and maybe a snack and a bit of company, many dogs will be fine. Obviously the dog will need a decent walk before you leave for work and the same when you return and personally I wouldn't be leaving the dog alone in the evenings often either but otherwise I'm sure there is a dog out there that would suit you fine.

I get home at around 5pm everyday, and I would take the dog on a quick walk in the morning, a walk when I get back and then one later in the evening too! Thank you for the help!
