We really want to adopt an ex racing greyhound and went to meet one today. We're told that he is a very lovely dog and great with kids but he seemed very subdued and not interested in us at all. I've done some more reading today and it seems pretty common for them to be like that and that they can be like that for a long time once you take them home. He was fine with the kids today, but obviously quite subdued and quiet, just wondering if he'll still be good with them when he 'comes out of his shell', so to speak, at home..?

Hello and welcome.
How old are your children? They will have to learn that the dog is not a toy and has to be allowed to have his own space. The way the dog reacts to the children will greatly depend on how they react to him. An ex racer has lived it's while life so far in a kennel. It has no experience of children, other dogs, living in a house etc. I would urge you to read Lisa's thread in this area 'So you've got your new hound home?' which will help you to understand how to help your new hound to settle and become part of your family.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
