Hi, Our hound hurt his paw last week and has been sporting a bandage ever since. He's just visited the vets again to have a new bandage put on. We've been taking it in turns to stay with him while he's on the mend, and to make sure he doesn't chew at the plaster.
In general he's leaving it be so we've not had to use a cone, but we've popped his muzzle on a couple of times when he's got a bit over enthusiastic licking and nibbling at the bandage.
He's usually left alone for a few hours some days, but we've not left him since his bandage was put on. I was wondering if others had experience of leaving their hound alone while bandaged up? I'm a bit concerned he will start to chew it as soon as we go out! Is it best to stay with him until the bandages are off?? If he does chew it is it likely to do him any harm? I wouldn't like to delay his recovery.
thanks K

I usually pop a child's sock over any wound dressings on feet and use some sticky plaster (on a roll) or vet wrap around the top above the knuckle to secure it. Careful not to put it too tight otherwise it'll cause swelling.
If you're feeling creative, you could make a foot/leg cover from a cheap fleece blanket.

Hi, a sock has been working well - bandage is now off and we are using a pawz boot to keep his foot dry and clean until the cut is completely healed. Thanks! K
