Hi there
I've been reading this forum all week, so hoping someone can help!
We rehomed our 6 year old retired greyhound a week ago. When he arrived we noticed a patch of fur on his thigh that seemed like a scab/matted fur, but didn't think too much of it.
However today we noticed him licking, and he seems to have picked the scab off, leaving an open wound. It isn't massive, but does look sore.
Is there any advice as to what I should do? Will it heal on its own or do we need to take him to a vet? There is no pus, so it isn't infected.
Thanks in advance

Bathing the sore in salt and water would help - what sort of size is it?

Thank you for the picture .... it seems to be starting to mend itself if it has a scab now, but I would still bathe it. Salt/water would help to prevent any infection.

Thank you, Lurcherlot We are seeing the Veterinary Nurse on Saturday anyway (quick health check and worming) so will show to her also. However we did clean it last night and it does look a lot better this morning. Think we are just worrying ourselves as he is still settling in and we are new to the breed! Thanks again.
