I adopted a 2.5 yr old male ex-racer about 3 weeks ago. He's settled in pretty well so far but over the past few days he's gotten really hyper. I work all day but come home in the afternoon to walk him. I've upped his walks from 20 mins three times a day to 40 mins in the morning, 20 in the afternoon (it's all I can manage with work) and an hour in the evening but it hasn't helped much. I'm feeding him skinners complete twice a day. He was also recently neutered so maybe there is residual hormones floating around? I was told by the charity he would only require an hour a day tops which factored heavily into my deciding to adopt a grey so it makes me think there's another issue?

Hi Cameron and welcome to Greyhound Gap,
Have you spoken to the rescue you got him from as they know him best.
Can you describe what he is doing, when/where. Can you identify the stimili?

Although greys don't need lots of walking they do like interaction it might not be extra walks but maybe training or a run he is in need of. I would speak to the rescue and maybe a dog trainer I took all of mine to local classes to get them mixing with other dogs and used to basic obedience even though they already knew it and it did them the world of good. Has he got toys and chews while your out?

Are you doing a lot of playing and interacting with him? Maybe he is getting over stimulated. Will he settle down with a long lasting chew stick, bone or filled kong and be left for a while? He needs to learn to settle on his bed and be ignored for a bit maybe.
