Hi all,
I'm really hoping somebody can offer advice or insight into this problem. It just started today, after six months of having my beautiful ex-racing boy. Ever since I got him, my boy has absolutely loved going to the park, and gets walked there as often as possible - sometimes five or six times a day. Today he refuses point blank to go in the gate, will stand statue still, cross his legs if you give a gentle tug on the lead, refuses to take treats and is unresponsive to being called. He'll walk around the streets, but seems very agitated, as if he's either looking for something or thinks he's being followed. It's such an abrupt change in him and his character; indoors, he seems just fine. He seemed happy enough walking in the park yesterday; he greeted several dogs without any encouragement needed, responded just fine to being called, and seemed quite energetic. It's very upsetting to see him act so anxious. Thanks in advance.

Did something happen? Another dog, a noise anything you can think of that caused the change. If not it doesn't matter. As it only started today he may be different tomorrow so take him back but don't force him. If he refuses to enter just carry on with your walk and take a different route. Are there other dogs he likes that go there? Can you ask the owners if you can all walk together to the park - if he sees another dog not bothered this might calm him down and give him some confidence.
Good luck

Mine is twitchy on walks. When we had her over 5 yrs ago - the day we took her home was "bin day" and I walked her round the block and she completely freaked out. To this day she hates the sound of the bin lorry, but as long as she can't hear it she is mostly fine. Not entirely happy about cars on a wet road or heavy lorries, but generally enjoys her walks. However still has one ear cocked in case she hears something she doesn't like.
