Our greyhound has always drank lots of water sinced we rehomed him. If we put a bowl of water down he will drink it all. If we put a second bowl down he will drink it all. This has gone on for 6 years.
He also has occasions where he urinates on the floor.
We have tried the vets and carried out test but they said he seems fine.
We feed him the dry greyhound food but have noticed if we give him canned food he does not drink much water.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried adding water to his dry food just before feeding? Dried food can make them thirsty as it's dehydrated, which is why you see a difference in his water intake when you feed him canned food.

Great that you've had him checked by a vet and all is ok I'm assuming apart from infection they have also ruled out diabetes? If so as Laura has suggested I would add water to his biscuit to see if this helps. Mary

My dogs are both fed completely on wet food not kibble and they hardly drink anything at all now, might be worth a try. Forthglade and naturediet are very good and come in lots of varieties with and without grain. Or you could reduce the amount of kibble and increase the wet if you don't want to go the whole way. When ours had kibble I never soaked it but did put 3/4 of a cup of water over it immediately before I gave them it.
Assuming he was in a racing kennels at it may be that it was one where they didn't have free access to water so when they are given it they drink the lot so it becomes a habit to clear the bowl each time they drink. Our Gracie was like that at first but she soon realised that she didn't need to and stopped.
