Hello
This is a bit long winded, sorry!
We are going to friends for dinner on Friday evening. They live about 30mins away so we always used to take Jess with us and sometimes stay over. Jess (greyhound x) was a bit of a madam and didn't have the greatest social skills, but got on fine with our friends' border terrier (in name only - no sense of smell and very low prey drive ). We have known him since he was a puppy and he's now about 9.
Our options for Friday are to take Arthur and stay over or leave him at home (watching Wuffering Heights) and dash back early.
Arthur has settled really well (5 months now!) and gets walked by his dog walker with a standard poodle bitch most days and also, fairly regularly, a cockerpoo dog. He was even pretty good with grumpy Barney the golden retriever. His problem is that he only gives a very short warning before lunging if he's bothered (nervous), which seems to take other dogs by surprise. He is always muzzled when out and about.
We think Arthur will be fine with Hamlet (we know our friends through theatre!) as he is pretty chilled (although normally very excited to see me...), but Ham will be on home territory. Ideally I would prefer them to meet somewhere else first, but time is against us. We can do intros outside and a short parallel walk down the road before going in... If there are issues Ham is fairly laid back about being put in a separate part of the house, but it feels a bit mean to do that in his own home. We certainly wouldn't stay overnight if that happened.
I guess my question is whether to use this as a first meeting or leave Arthur at home for a couple of hours and meet somewhere else another day? I don't want to be overly cautious or over think it, but want the meeting to go well when it does happen.
My gut instinct is to do it another day, but all experience of intros is appreciated!
Thanks,
Lisa
