Hi can anyone advise please? We've adopted an 11 month old lurcher who was only in rescue for around 1 week. He came as house trained but this is debatable. He does go to the toilet outside and when out on walks. He goes out as soon as he gets up in the morning for a wee and last thing before he goes to bed at night which is fine but the problem seems to be during the day. On a couple of occasions the door has been open to allow him access to the garden and one time he was even playing outside but for some reason he's then come inside and wee'd in the hallway. We try to watch him and often follow him into other rooms to keep an eye on him but he's done it when we've been distracted by other things. We've had him just under 4 weeks now so thought we were getting him sorted but obviously not as he's wee'd inside the last 2 days running. We take him for good long walks twice a day and he goes off lead and runs and plays, he toilets whilst we're out walking and we always praise him for this. We've scrubbed the carpet with biological washing liquid where he's soiled but he always seems to pick carpet to wee on rather than an easy clean surface. If anyone can help we'd be most grateful.

I would suggest you went back to basics and put him out on the hour, every hour, and stayed out with him, rather than just leaving the door open. When he does have a pee outside, reward him, tell him he's brilliant!

Mostly agree with Liz back to basics.Perry, his fostermum warned us that he needed to toilet straight after feeding - and yes,you did need to be like greased lightening.Didn't take him long before he let us know when he needed to go.Apart from when he had a long weekend back at fostermums and disgraced us.Jem remains a mystery - out like clockwork, know she usually needs to go after feeding, recognise her signals - but if we're not super aware she'll still wee indoors - bit awkward if you also happened to need to go.Best to ignore her as she is upset - but we have usually been out with her just before it happens.Shadow has been really good - looked really bemused when he was chucked out every hour, and so far 1 accident on the kitchen tiles that he was mortified about.Wpart from Jem - back to basics works, just wish we could fathom her out.Cath

Hi
Thanks for your advice, we're currently going outside with him as suggested every couple of hours during day and when we anticipate he might need to go. Sometimes he just stands there looking gormless but he gets lots of praise when he goes. Hopefully he'll get it eventually.
