HI everyone.
Just after a little advice, i adopted our first ever greyhound a week ago today, she is an absolute star, and already we couldn't imagine her not in our family.
Our only issue is this, we have a small fenced in park near our home where we have been walking. We met another Grey owner with her lovely dog and they were getting on great...until i took Lucy off the lead.
As soon as she was off the lead she was barking and growling at the other dog and any other dogs that passed the park too. She settled after a while and didn't bark at the other Greyhound but continued to at other dogs that passed.
I have heard of on leash aggression but not off. Is this something i can work with?
If needbe i can keep her on lead but i like to see her running around having fun.
Many thanks in advance.

If you don't already do so, I would advise muzzling her to ensure nobody gets hurt (dog or human). It's very early days and she will probably take a while to settle in. Hounds can be very breedist and some only like their own kind. In kennels she will only have met other greyhounds and should, in theory, have learned to get on with them but other breeds are a different matter!

Could it be an invitation to play rather than aggression? Hounds can be very fiercely vocal when playing.

Thanks for replying. I had muzzled her but when we were out she was showing no interest at all to other dogs but o may put the muzzle on if letting her off leash. It could be, the other hound owner was great and said to leave her for 5 mins and she did settle down but it froghtened me a little.

My elder Greyhound Merlin when he came to me he was okay straight away with my other Greyhound Missy because he thought she was his mother, but he could not understand what my GSD Mimi was just a very hairy large animal. In fact he became better once I took him for socialisation at a place where they had lots of other breeds in the same courses. I never had to muzzle any of my Greyhounds and have had no problems on or off lead. But found the socialisation was a real requirement as ex-racing Greyhounds whilst in racing kennels only came across other Greyhounds.
