Has anyone got any experience of bad side effects from plaque off. I have just ordered some but am a bit worried about some reviews stating upset stomachs, sickness, diarrhea etc. As Pluto gets colitis and has a weak stomach in general, I wouldn't want to give him anything that would make it worse. TIA. Janine x

I used Plaque off a long time ago on my greyhound lad, he never had any bad effects from it and it may have even helped his teeth. After a couple of years I discovered Neem powder and changed to using that instead.

I've used plaque off with 3 of my dogs and never experienced any issues. I too switched to Neem powder when I discovered it. X

No problems here either, but not convinced it did any good.

I stopped because you're not supposed to use it if they have either liver or kidney problems as well as thyroid problems (I think it was) and Trixie developed them while I was using it so I figured how many dogs do and we don't know so are potentially doing the wrong thing? Can't say it seemed to work anyway.

We used to use plaque off on Ben and Lucy and it worked really well until we switched their food (we tried the RGT stuff) and their teeth seemed to get stained again so we stopped using it. (I gave it to a work colleague for her cats as it was for dogs & cats). We then switched to Tropiclean that you put in the water and it does much better, along with daily brushings, than plaque off ever did (and that's on dogs aged 8, 9 and 10 - although admittedly, our 9 year old has a couple of wobbly teeth the vet pointed out). Saying that, we only got our 10 year old a year or so ago and she had a bit of a neglected mouth but now she's not bad at all. It was thought she'd need a dental when we had her and two vets have told us (for all three) no immediate need as yet. Tropiclean is available from a few places but we initially bought it from Pets at Home J

I should point out that we don't use the RGT food any more either - partly because of the state our dog's teeth got into. We've been using Red Mills Tracker since we've had our older girlie as the RGT kibble was like bricks and her poor little mouth that wasn't even used to dog kibble couldn't cope so we switched as we knew Red Mills had much smaller kibble size J

How do you use the neem powder? I bought the leaf powder and have mixed it into paste with oil and rubbed on but not sure really. it tastes awful! My poor grey looks so mortified when i use it! Ta anna

You can dip a toothbrush in it, rub it on with your finger or add a pinch to their food. I hated the smell so much and the dogs absolutely hated it too that it went in the bin. I'm annoyingly sensitive to smells though, I can't stand the smell of coconut oil either. Tony bought a neem kit to get rid of his athletes foot, it worked but the bottles had to live in the shed as I couldn't stand the smell even with the tops on tightly. Fortunately it was summer so he was banished outside to use it!
