Roy came to Gap at the end of May 2012 after Lisa, our founder, had taken a call from the pound saying they had a very poorly little whippet cross boy.
He had a large tumour on his throat, swollen joints, sores on his body and no hair on his little ears. Gap wanted to give him a chance so had the tumour removed which sadly tested positive for thyroid cancer, he was given 3-5 months to live. Roy wasn't castrated as it was thought unnecessary to put him through another operation when he wasn't expected to be around for long.
Roy has since proved everyone wrong! In his permanent foster home with our long term volunteer and fosterer, Sue, he really started to thrive. He ended up having to be castrated afterall due to an enlarged prostate, he also had a toe amputated due to a reoccurring cyst.
Roy was later also diagnosed with Cushings Disease which is now managed by medication. Over three years after he arrived, and not expected to be with us for long, he has overcome many obstacles and is still enjoying life - costing Gap a fortune but worth every penny!
His eyesight isn't very good, infact we think he's blind in one eye but he's still up for his walks and loves his food!
If you are interested in sponsoring Roy or any of our sponsor dogs, please e-mail Sue at tarajoe89@yahoo.co.uk or fundraising@greyhoundgap.org.uk
