Hi Has anyone ever engaged the services of Jim Greenwood? I am wondering whether to give Molly another go with a behaviourist as her reactivity really does get me down sometimes. I did BAT for ages and never got much beyond the avoidance bit. She's been to socialisation type classes, seen two behaviourists and the vet and nothing has worked. I would really like to be able to enjoy a walk - anyone got experience of Jims work??? I'm not expecting her to love dogs, but just to be able to walk on the opposite side of the street would be great.
Also - do you think I should just accept it? It's been 3.5 years now and I don't think I've really got anywhere.

Hi I went to a Jim Greenwood workshop about a year ago in Bridport, Dorset which was organised by a friend who knows him and sets up sessions for him. He generally runs morning, afternoon and questions and answer pub sessions in the evenings and I went with some friends to an afternoon session. I can't remember the exact cost but I recall it was about £30. Jim is very much led by the needs of the dogs in the group at the time and will cover what the owners most need to work on. The day I went, he covered behavioural problems in the morning and recall in the afternoon. He covered recall in great depth but as I wanted behavioural as well, he did spend time talking about that and working with Paddy on reactivity.
The sessions, to the best of my knowledge, are all held outside and owners tend to stand with their dogs in a circle whilst Jim talks and instructs from the circle. He gives a short talk at the beginning and then asks owners for specific problems they have and then works on it with them whilst others watch and learn. There is no question that he has in depth knowledge of sighthounds and all the issues.
As an owner that has experienced the trials of walks with a reactive hound and felt the disillusionment of techniques that appear not to have much impact, I would say, stick with it. It will improve slowly and each bit you learn will help. Direct eye contact with other dogs and distance apart from other dogs is key. Walking on the opposite side of the road without reactivity will eventually come but you need to closely read your dog's body language and the body language of the dog opposite.
It's a slow process is my view. I never thought Paddy would be friends with any other breed of dog but with slow and careful introductions, he has accepted as friends a couple of Border Collies as well as being calm around a Westie, Pointer and Retriever. Another essential part I believe is meeting dogs away from the home and home environment.

So an option is then that I organise a group session with Jim? He is up in Cheshire though. I have been in touch with Jim today and will go up for the day in early November. I might also try and squeeze in a quick detour via the new kennels!!! I'm hoping he can see me on a Saturday as I work full time. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi. I'm new, just adopted a Spanish greyhound who is very reactive on the lead and freezes when she sees cats ( she's too strong for me too move her) and often the cats like to try their luck and head straight for us! It's very early days for us but I had this romantic vision of taking my daughter to school with the dog then going on for a lovely leisurely walk after! The first few times have been stressful as I didn't realise how strong and stubborn she is! Am very wary when taking her for a walk as the first two times ( same day) two dogs off lead approached her and she wasn't happy ...( she lunged forward and barked at them) I am scared of street corners in particular in case I am caught off guard. Is it best to walk her round the street where I live or there is a field where a few dog walkers go but they may be off lead and so that wouldn't be good but maybe if we saw them from afar I could avoid them? I would definatly be interested in Seeing Jim Greenwood. Is there a group thing on or do I do it one to one? Any advice would be appreciated thanks.
