One of my workmates has 2 greyhounds, one has a tattoo in her ear so how can we find out anything about her past from it. Apparently she was found as a stray in Ireland and taken in by Dogs Trust then brought over here.

Firstly you can try entering the tattoo into the search on the database on www.greyhound-data.com (sometimes you get lucky, but many are not entered on there). If that doesn't work you can work out her year of birth using the information here: greyhoundrescuewales.co.uk/greyhound-tattoos/But the best source of information (DOB and registered 'racing' name) you would need to phone or email: For British greys: (tattoo in one ear only) www.greyhoundstudbook.co.uk/For Irish greys: (tattoo in both ears) irishcoursingclub.ie/When you have the racing name you can put that into the greyhound-data search and can usually find out their full racing history, doesn't always make easy reading

Thank you so much - I will pass this info on to my friend - she was told that Dora was picked up from a motorway in Ireland as a stray and is supposed to be 2 years old - so if she finds out anything it will be interesting.

The racing industry really does love the dogs, doesn't it?

If the Greyhound raced in Ireland the details will be on Greyhounds-data base. There is another way of finding out just phone the RGT in the UK. If the Greyhound raced recently in the UK obviously meaning not the one found on the motorway in Ireland it will be microchipped by the Greyhound Racing Board of the UK.
Quite a number of Greyhounds decide not to race any more and escape at the first possible moment. I have two who did this one in Ireland and one in Sheffield both are now legally mine with their microchips registered to me by Petlog. I have a third one who was transferred to me direct from her UK (Kent) trainer so again she is legally mine with her microchip registered to me by Petlog. I have a fourth Hound who is mostly a Wired Haired Ibizan Hound from Spain whose original Spanish chip failed after three years so had to have another UK microchip inserted and again registered to me with Petlog. I know the breed record of the three Greyhounds but nothing about the Spanish Hound so she is classified as a crossbreed.
