lance has eaten some of the gel from a freezer pack, vet seems unconcerned but not very confident. googling the contents of the freezer packs the ones that appear on the list don't appear as toxic to dogs or humans, but it would be really reassuring if someone else's stupid greyhound had done this!

I think if it was my dog, I would ring a different vet or a poisons hotline, I would think these freezer packs have antifreeze in which is toxic. 
I wouldn't wait and see what he's like in the morning.

I spoke to a different vet, the ingredients are non-toxic to humans and animals - as the first vet said, they have to be because they are kept with food and could get punctured in use. They don't contain anti-freeze - they are the type that freeze hard not the medical type which stay flexible when very cold. Second vet said he had never known a dog have ill effects from them - he made it sound like a regular occurrence! Nonetheless I shall be watching carefully all night. Flipping daft dog has already had an emetic today because he ate 1/4 of the skin of a Gallia melon in about 3 pieces while I was out of the room, for at very most 5 minutes. Both vets said there would be little point repeating that anyway as liquid would pass into his system faster. I googled the ingredients - they are often found in human food, but it's harder to find info about dogs and since chocolate is more poisonous to them than it is to us ... I think I have to trust two vets and the fact that it is now at least 3 hours since he did it and he is showing no signs at all of illness

That's a relief then, it's awful when they eat stuff and you just don't know whether it's harmful or not.

I hope Lance is ok and doesn't give you anymore scares for a while
