Hi All,
So bit worried about the Ollie dog.
Weds last week first thing in the morning all was fine...usual routine of out of bed, downstairs for a wee then back to bed on the sofa till its time to leave. I was sat next to him putting shoes on to leave when he did a very usual and normal 'shuffle' - when he is laid on his side he scoots himself down and sort of pushes his back out, most times to get his legs free from underneath himself and then usually roll over for a tummy rub and to give me an 'ARR!'As he did this he started to cry and of course look at me like it was my fault! He jumped off the sofa which seemed to make it worse and then sat on his bum, which he rarely does if treats are not involved, tail between his legs. I encouraged him to stand for me to have a look and his back was all arched up and tummy all tucked in and tail firmly between his legs. He just wanted to sit as if this was the most comfortable. Reassured him and gave strokes and it seemed to pass and he relaxed again. So, steadily out the door and to the car...hopped in fine and happy, laid down as normal. When we got to work, coming out of the car it happened again, though this time lasted a lot longer.
So, fearing the worst and trying not to panic I phoned the vets and booked an appt for as soon as they opened that morning. 45 mins laying quietly in the car and once we got to the vets all seemed fine. He was happy, walking fine, and had a wee! Vet examined and said he was a little sore in his lower abdomen but not very much. He checked his prostate and anal glands (which Ollie really didn't think much of for so early in the day..poor lamb), both fine. Temp fine, heart and breathing rate A OK! He even said what amazingly clean lovely teeth he had for an 8 yr old dog and how healthy he was! Vet prescribed 100mg Rimadyl for four days to be given with food and to rest up. He was quiet for that day but a good nights sleep and the drugs kicking in and he was great again come the next morning. So quiet couple of days, and tablets as prescribed and all seemed fine.
Then yesterday he was sitting on a friends sofa and was all curled up in a ball and then exactly the same thing happened.Took him outside and went for a very steady walk to try and ease it off a little which seemed to work. He was again quiet last night after another episode and now today, its my day off and he has had a very relaxed day...we went for a stroll this morning...all toilets as normal...but just had another bout of whatever it is. Seemed to be a mild one..he barely cried and just looked uncomfortable. Laid him down and rubbed his belly and back etc. He does seem to be stretching out a bit less when he's sleeping. Does anyone have experience of strains and does this sound like the case or should I be worried about anything else? Have been googling all sorts to find out anything. Should I just get some more anti inflammatories from the vets? Sorry this is so very long winded! Any help or advice would be greatly received!
Thanks in advance, Sally & Ollie
