Hi - is there anyone out there who has experience of a grey with laryngeal paralysis please? I have read about and understand this newly diagnosed condition my 11 year old girl has, but would also appreciate connecting with anyone else who has experience of this upsetting condition. Thanks very much.
Hi Ginny My old greyhound Don had LP, he was diagnosed at 11 years and then had a tie back operation at 12 years.I lost him last Nov at 15 years, but not through LP, just old age. Please feel free to PM me. It's very frightening to begin with but actually was easier to look after after his operation. We had a set of rules for him, like what he was allowed to eat, always walked on a harness, just a loose thin house collar with his tags on. Leanda
Our grey Fern has just been diagnosed with this. As she's 12 we've decided not to go along the lines of surgery as we don't think it's fair to her to put her through major surgery. At the moment it's mild, and the only symptoms she has is panting more and occasionally coughing. We've changed her to a harness, and we've noticed a difference in the frequency of her cough (for the better). Other than that, is there anything else we can do to keep her comfortable? I know there's no magic cure, other than surgery, but want to keep her quality of life for as long as poss. Any advice would be appreciated. X

My last two lurchers had this, I gave them MSM as a supplement which helps strengthen cartiledge and that helped (buy horse MSM it's cheaper and the same as dog supplements).
I put big fans on them when it was hot to help their breathing and generally let them dictate their level of exercise .. I'd stop them galloping with others so they're not carried away by enthusiasm and do too much but mine carried on having hour long walks for many years Harnesses are better for them and I found if I fed mine dry biscuits one would often get a lung infection so I made sure that I fed raw and baked liver/pilchard cake which as slightly moist (probably my bad cooking) and crumbs didn't go into his lungs
Thanks for the tips. Going to try and source some MSM. The humid weather has made it slighter worse, but we've taken to using a fan. Its good to hear that yours continued to live happy and healthy lives for several years after diagnosis Thanks Julie. X
