Lela has injured her tail. The vet has bandaged it and gave us a lamp shade collar to stop her licking it, but Lela won't keep the collar on!
I remember seeing dogs with a kind of circular cushion on the forum, as an alternative to the lamp shade collar. Could anyone tell me what these are called?
Not sure if any collar is going to stop her licking it. The injury is half way down her tail, so I think with her long body and long tail, she might be able to bend around to reach it anyway.

Sandra it's an inflatable collar but I doubt it will work with a tailgate injury.

Thanks Nettie, I looked it up and I think you're right - it might not work for tail injuries as she'll still be able to reach.
Hmm not sure how to stop her aggravating the wound or taking the bandage off! The lamp shade collar lasted about 5 seconds. Lela has a really small head so it just slips off.
We can keep an eye on her today, and she's not taking the bandage off while we're there, but she might at night....
I'll pop into the pet shop to see if they have anything I can spray on the bandage to deter her.

A strip of pipe insulation works well, or a 50 ml syringe if you have one, attached to above the damaged bit with Micropore.

Update:
Lela's tail has finally healed, after nearly a month! We took the last bandage off this weekend.
She needed bandage changes every 3 days. We found that she didn't bother a very light bandage. Basically a piece of gauze, with tape at the top and bottom. It stopped her from licking the wound. Very lucky she didn't need the cone in the end, that world have been awful for such a long time!
