My greyhounds apart from a quick run round have never "played", since we lost harry in november Lolli and Ringo have raced round a fair bit with bitey faces and tbh the arrraaa arrraa as they are doing it is twitching us a bit, is this normal? Obviously some change in pack dynamics is to be expected harry was a very quite subservient dog who Lolli used to tell off occasionally, Ringo is an I am in front out my way boy who she has never told off. If they are being fussed Occasionally he will push her out of the way with his back end (he occasionally did this to harry) which he is checked for doing so. Lolli can get a bit rough when playing with the humans.
Sorry for the ramble dont want to worry if this is normal just don't want it to get out of hand and none of the others have ever had any interest in playing! Helen

It is normal but when ours were younger we got so many accidental little holes and I got so fed up of going to the vets with bigger ones that we muzzled them all on walks - they go off lead - which was great. At home if they start outside I keep an eye on them for the same reason and stop them if it gets too much. We have had it change quickly from rarr rarr games to someone loosing their temper as they've had a nip, more so in the garden probably because it's small so they can't run off so I'm very cautious. Bod never does it just the 3 girls.
We can get some bum shoving out of the way too but I know how each one will react so I know where the flash points are. Gracie is top dog and will tell them if they go too far, I really believe she swears at them sometimes but she's quite laid back, Sapphy is a daft clumsy clown but she has a very quick temper if someone hurts her and retaliates. Maddie is very chilled up to a point but if Sapphy annoys her she'll have a go at her then Sapphy snaps back. Bod keeps out of it, very wise boy!

Mine do bitey faces and play together with toys, the noises that come out of their little gobs is amazing, Cara is very verbal for a little 'un. You get to know the tone when things may start to escalate into a row, I just step in and diffuse it. The girls play lots, Billie tries to play with Alf whose a much bigger and older male greyhound, sometimes he obliges but it's a bit worrying when he play bows and starts waving his feet about, he could easily take an eye out. Cara has never asked Alf to play and vice versa. When offlead together they are muzzled as Bill used to chase legs and want to nip The girls vie for attention, Billie is not very subtle, she gets ignored when I'm with one of the others and she pokes me or the other dog with her pointy little face, but is now much bettter at not butting in and waiting her turn. If I'm fussing Bill or Alf, Cara may go and get a toy and dump it on my lap, which is her way of saying, me, don't forget about me. Alfie's not bothered and takes affection when it's offered, he never worries about the girls.

Thanks Vicky, sorry to sound a right plank!!! They are on leaders only so I will carry on just keeping an eye on them I don't think you sound a plank! When you first experience it it is alarming and they're so quick. I think some have better bite inhibition and are ok but others are rougher.

In 2013 Kelly ended up having to go to the vets three times in three weeks, the first two cuts were small but still needed stitching and it involved going to a vet, first one, near Ely Cambridgeshire and the second one in March Cambridgeshire as we were on three weeks holiday in Cambridgeshire. The third one was much larger was on a Saturday morning when Kelly and Mickey were off lead in a semi secure compound, she was patched at our vets in Clydach by a Locum vet. Good not really find what had caused it but suspicious that Mickey's teeth were to blame. These days there has been no further incidents, except Kelly and Mickey have snogging sessions with no biting. Kelly's 3 incidents cost me 3 excesses of £75 each time out of bills for £125, £140, and £450 which PetPlan paid minus the excesses. The main problem is Greyhounds have so little coverage of their skin that the slightest incident can lead to a cut. Merlin had three such incidents due to racing through very sharp bushes at the park we walk in back in 2008 not long after I had rehomed him in December 2007.
