Been up all night with poor Boris, he brought back his tea last night about 8pm & has been sick several times during the night. Its just yellowish bile now but he had a drink of water & that came back as well. Will ring vet soon as he opens. He dosent seem distressed but I am worried about him. Dont think he ate anything bad yesterday as he is always on lead unless in the field with me. He is asleep on bed & Im exhausted.

Vet says Boris has pancreatis & hyperlipidemia ( not sure of spelling. He has done blood tests & Boris has had injections & has to have special no fat diet. If he starts vomiting again will have to go & stay in vets. So upset for him, he dont seem to have much luck. Will have to speak to Lisa when she has a moment. He is so brave ,didnt cry at all for blood or injections though vet said he is in pain. Settled at home now. Im probably more upset than he is.

I've had a lot of experience with severe pancreatitis - try not to worry. With any luck the injections will halt the symptoms and he'll gradually get better with TLC and most importantly a fat free diet. Has he had much in the way of extras over xmas? Trixie used to get terribly severe attacks and had one on NY eve once. We went to bed and all was well, I got up a couple of hours later and upstairs was covered in pools of yellow frothy vomit. Her temp was sky high and all she wanted to do was be outside so she could lie in the snow. She bit me when I tried to bring her in which was just unheard of for her but she was delirious and really didn't know where she was. Obviously straight to VetsNow and then spent NY day freezing with a fan blowing on her to keep her temp down (vets advice) We were always told to give her white fish or chicken - one piece at a time but not to worry if she wouldn't eat until the inflammation had subsided. She like Applaws tins, very tempting and low fat but expensive but they got her eating again. I hope he's ok and doesn't need to be admitted. Try not to worry, I know how alarming it can be, Trixie had several attacks and ended up on one of the vet foods for it which really helped. Just try to keep things quiet and calm and be guided by what he seems to want which will probably be space. BTW I've had it and spent a week in hosp! It is agony, I loved the morphine they gave me so I have the greatest sympathy for dogs that get it.

Baxter was hospitalised with Pancreatitis. He was on a very low fat diet afterwards and was ok with that - as soon as he had something that wasn't he'd be ill. Fish4dogs treats are great as far as treats go. X

Thank you all,we dont give many treats as Tia (collie cross) gets fat easily. Hugs &fuss instead.Got diet food from vet & fish but he dont want anything .Vet said he is in pain (had painkillers )but he isnt showing any signs or crying . Feel so bad for him ,we only had him few weeks but I love him already.I feel I should have realised he was ill sooner but he was running about & full or energy. Lit the fire for him & he is on the sofa resting.Fingers crossed it settles & he dont have to go in. Lovely vet , given me his mobile no to "call anytime"

It can come on so suddenly literally Trixie could seem fine one minute and very poorly the next so don't blame yourself. Don't worry re food either, he'll eat when he feels up to it. For now his digestive system is resting and his body will hopefully be starting to recover very soon Now you know he may be prone to it you'll know what to look for and how to deal with it.

How is Boris today? Hope he has managed to keep something down.
One of my cats had the same when we got her as a Kitten. She was so poorly but it quickly got sorted with medication and special food. She is 8 now and is still on low fat food. Vets have tested and said she has not got it anymore but she still cannot tolerate food with more fat in so she is still on low fat food.
Sue, if he is special food long term buy it off the internet, it is generally a lot cheaper then the vets.
