Hi everyone.
I'm looking for some advice. Both of my two seem to have terrible problems with their pads. They don't have corns but the middle of their pad goes pink and reallly smooth and they find it hard to walk on any rough surface even walking to the park is difficult until we get on grass. We do quite a bit of pavement walking but not that much that I would expect this. It is worse than ever at the moment struggling to get them out for a walk at all.
Any suggestions would be great!!

Our Maddie has butter paws. You could try getting some paw wax, not very expensive, got mine from P@H. I don't rub it on her feet I slide her foot over the tin - it's like the flat old fashioned shoe polish tin. I do it once we're outside when we're ready to go. It does help a bit. Otherwise I'd say you're looking at boots but a lot of dogs aren't happy with them and I would think that if you did that the pads would get softer.

You can also get some stuff called Tuf-Foot which I think is for racing hounds, but paw wax is a bit nicer to use.

My lurcher mayo has always had soft pads and in the past I've used Tuf foot. However, when it dissolved the plastic bottle it was stored in within a couple of weeks I decided to stop Mayo now has Shaws Paw Wax rubbed in daily - as Vicky says it's inexpensive and provides a barrier against the elements. If that doesn't do the trick you can move on to Mushers Wax, which is designed for sled dogs and gets excellent reviews. Moira x
