Menta has been found to be Diabetic from her blood tests. So she will need twice daily injections which has to be given 45 minutes after her meal. Poor lass eye problems, heart problems and now Also diabetic. One thing the ForthGlade food is ideal for her. Have to learn how to inject her insulin over the next week and half as we are away from 22nd to 29th November. These dogs keep you on your toes. I have found that her eyes are now stable so I don't have to fight her diving her the eye drops. Also I am giving her one heart tablet a day and one Tramadol tablet a day. The reason why she lost weight was because of her being Diabetic.

At least they have found out the problem of her losing weight Ted, and, in a way it is good news ,as at least it can be controlled by medication. I dont envy you having to inject her twice a day though, as, i think if it was one of mine, i would struggle to do it , but then, its one of those things that in cases like this , we have to overcome our fears, dont we . Poor little babe though , as she certainly has a few things going on healthwise dosnt she . Carol x

Poor Menta-at least now you know what you are dealing with and hopefully once you get into a good routine with the Insulin she will feel better and start to put some weight back on,not fair when these lovely hounds get more than their fair share of illness-big hugs for you both xx

Menta is worth all the effort of keeping her healthy now we know what the problem is with her losing so much weight. I did say what did our vet think and he said as she appears so happy is eating and drinking okay and wants to go ou fo small walks then she is worth all the effort. He is not normally in on Thursdays but ask me to be there at 09.30am so he can make sure I can inject Menta okay. It is a pity that there is not a tablet that can be given in place of the injections.
We are away at Four Acres in Pembrokeshire 22nd to 29th November so I need to be able to do this injection twice a day for Menta. What with her problems and Merlin having to have Tramadol to overcome his paniccing at loud noises, I also have to give Menta a Tramadol tablet and a Heart Tablet daily. These loving pets are worth all the effort with the amount of love they give in return.

Menta is now having three meals aday. At 7am I give her and Kelly 1/2 a carton each for early breakfast, the two boys, Merlin and Mickey are norinterested in having that breakfast. I then inject Menta with her first insulin injection. At 9.30am I take all four Hounds for their first walk. When we come back home I then give all four Hounds a 1/2 cartons each for a late breakfast. We go out about 2pm for our second walk. I give them their evening meal at 6pm of a carton each. I also give Menta her second injection after giving her a heart tablet. Menta since having these injections is really enjoying her walks. She also shouts at me for her late breakfast and her evening meal. Menta goes out the back around 10pm and 1am, so I have to clean up after our first walk and wash down the pation.

Menta bloods and wee were tested today, so I have to increase her insulin injection from 11 to 15 which I have to do twice aday. Menta knows she is having three meals aday and shouts at me for her food. Her next test will be Friday the day before we go away for a weeks holiday. Menta now wants the two walks aday instead of staying at home in the afternoon.
