Hello lovely Gappers, just what it says in the title really! Tess (our Collie cross) is somewhat of a hairy beast and I've been toying with the idea of a furminator for some time now. Anyway, I've spotted what looks like a similar product on VetUk called a Petuk grooming tool for nearly half the price and would love to know if anyone else had tried it before I buy? Or is it a case of "buy cheap buy twice" ? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this xx

George have you tried a zoom groom? Rather than having a blade it's just rubber but is pretty good xxx

My friend has a Furminator for her collie x, but she did get a bit carried away and end up with an almost bald spot!
I've got a variety of grooming tools including a zoom groom which is really good for getting loose hair out.
I also use a rake and one of those flat things with metal prongs on which is great for when a dog's got the fluffs.
And then finish with a brush!

We've got both and I wouldn't be without either. Our furminator is the old one that doesn't have the extra bit to collect the fur. I find it fantastic for getting the loose fur out quickly but as Vanessa says you have to be careful not to over do. The zoom groom gives them a nice massage and attracts the dandruff especially if you dip it in water, flick the excess off and and go over the coat lightly and it picks up the last loose hair too. I think the price of furminators is crazy these days! Trixie had a silky long collie like coat and I found a metal wide tooth comb was brilliant for her.

I take the zoom groom on walks and give them a quick go over with it when we get to the fields! Really good in spring when there's a lot of seeds and pollen about if you do it as you're leaving. I'd imagine she gets stuff in her long hair.
