Bernie shakes and pants so much when he is on the car that o worry he is going to collapse. You can see the fear in his eyes.
I took him to my sisters the other day and again he was as bad as when in the car. Has anyone got any tips on how to help him overcome his nerves when he goes to new environments

Sounds like genuine motion sickness. You could start by feeding him in the car, then make the journeys very short with something really nice the other end e.g. his favourite walk. Some people find Rescue Remedy works (a good phial full, not just four drops!) other say ginger biscuits ..... all in all, it will be a long haul, I'm afraid, particularly with an older dog.

Just be aware that rescue remedy is 27% alcohol, so be careful about giving more than the recommended dose....

I am giving small whippets a phial full, and have done for years, for fireworks and storms ..... it certainly doesn't affect them at all, they are still quivering wrecks not drunken wrecks!

I'm glad it works well for you! I just wanted to mention the alcohol content, in case anyone was not aware of that.

Marie a bean bag type bed in the car may help if he will lie on it, this type of bed gives them support and reduces the 'swaying' movement. You could also look at natural car sickness remedies.

Hi, this might seem a bit weird? but our female greyhound used to get upset & sick when she travelled on the back seat, I can not remember who/where it was mentioned but it was suggested moving her to the boot and the flat floor, (old quilt & blanket to lie on) a short while to get used to that and she has been fine on car journeys ever since.
I will never forget coming back from the beach and she suddenly stood up in the back seat and projectile vomited, front seat, back seat, both side windows, my shoulder all had a coat of yellow puke !
