After a bit of hound looning around the garden harry got nipped and needed stitching. He had bloods done which showed some abnormality in kidney function. My vet says its not very high and suggested a couple of weeks on a renal diet and repeat blood and fo a wee sample I nearly had to pick myself up off the floor at the price of renal kibble/wet food and am waiting to pick up a smsll bag to try. Harry has a hypoallergenic diet as he has a really dicky tum anyone have any advice about renal diets?

Nettie checked on line to be honest its not so much the cost just not sure whether it will set off his tum as he has maize, gluten etc free which the renal diets all seem to have. Think I need yo go back and discuss with vet.

Daisy has impaired renal function after small blood clots in her kidneys destroyed parts of them. She is on a normal diet Admittedly, she has a rather complicated medical history and suffers from conditions that contradict each other in terms of management However, if Mark, the Referral Vet (who also happens to be a Professor of Internal Medicine) is happy with this, so am I. The renal foods tend to be high fat and low protein, but as she has pancreatitis, Daisy needs a low fat diet. It's about balance and if changing Harry's food causes extra problems, then it's not a solution. If you are able to feed a home cooked diet, then that may work as you can use foods you know suit him, but I think you're right and need to speak to your Vet again. Moira x

My Brideg lurcher's kidney readings went out of normal, he was on loads of necessary medecines so I consulted Dan Hamilton's homeopathic book and fed him Alfalfa and I think it was baking powder and his readings came back into normal ... Google it My friends Leonberger coped very well on Burns Fish and Rice diluted with Burns Hypo-allergenic mixer She'd been prescribed renal food too Julie
