I'm gonna have to take Brandy to the vets on Monday as she is licking herself like mad and has had a couple of accidents so I'm guessing she may have a UTI. Does anyone have any tips for collecting a wee sample from a bitch and also daft question does it matter what container it goes in to take it to the vets. She seems fine in herself so il pop her in on Monday morning. Thanks in advance!

We use a small fish tank net lined with a freezer bag to collect samples from Daisy. We always go in from behind too otherwise it puts her off I have to confess to using human sample bottles to take specimens in but if you're careful, you can knot the freezer bag and transport it in that. I'd put it in a mug or something similar to prevent spillages. Hope Brandy is soon feeling better. Moira x

I used a small flat tray for our old girl and when she crowched down I slipped it in behind her. I used a thoroughly cleaned out glass medicine bottle but a sample bottle form a pharmacy will be fine. Usually around 50p. Just make sure what you use is clean and has no contaminates. Best of luck. Hope she is ok. x

Our vet supplied with a really good gizmo, the bottle had what I can only describe as the bottom of children's beach spade screwed on to the bottle neck so you held the bottle as a handle the spade bit went under her when she weed and then you tipped the spade up and all the urine went into the bottle, unscrewed the spade and screwed the cap on the bottle, excellent invention. Alternatively a long handled ladle that you don't want to use for cooking again works well.

I used a ladle and washed it well then it went in a hot wash in the dishwasher! It can take a few goes as girls are really good at clamping down once they get suspicious. Someone I know uses an old frying pan - they keep it specially for collecting wee from their fluffy girl. Whatever you use hold it behind your back until she squats so doesn't see it first. A vet did tell me that if all else fails if they wee on concrete you can carefully suck a little up with a syringe if it's the only way you can get some of the precious nectar! I use a well washed out jam jar or similar but I try to remember to get a fresh sample bottle from the vet to keep in stck each time I use one. Good luck!!!

Ladle worked a treat and first time too! Just back from the vets with some antibiotics as she has a water infection and also he emptied her anal glands as they were very full Oh and by god did it stink! She screamed the vets down and the whole waiting room was laughing as I walked in with her blanket for her to lay on! Well a girls gotta be comfy!

She'll feel a lot better very soon poor girl. Hate anal glands . Bod has a really sweet habit of emptying his on our bed - often in the night! the smell wakes me up Needless to say there is a good thick throw on it so I can just whip it off and it never goes through. A newly qualified vet was once emptying Trixies and it flew up in the air and right down her front, including her hair The vet nurse laughed and said they never do it twice
