Sibs snaps when she wants attention (I think the greyhound girly equivalent to stamping a foot ) and sounds quite similar to what other people have described.......Sue, I think personally you are experienced enough to know what Heidi is doing is different and it sounds to me like someone said about how cats suddenly turn when they are beyond their comfort zone....and like what Rachel has said with that poor chihuahua although not as extreme.

Dulcie snaps for more attention , we are used to it and give in to madam , but the other day she done it to my friend who was a bit scared ,she said " she was going to bite me I think " I said were you just touching her ? She says yes , I said oh it's okay she just wants more she won't actually touch you , my Son thinks she is hilarious , I just adore her and find it hard not to spoil her she is so lovable . Our last little greyhound bitch Libby was a total doll and very sweet but she had a habit of trying to snap at your nose when made a fuss of no malice but I never got her out of the habit , we used to say don't make a fuss of her she will try to bite your nose , never knew why she wasn't a nervous dog it was as if she didn't. Know how to. React to a fuss Obie is bombproof he will try to nip arses when people come in but after that he is lovely and so good with little granddaughter

Sue, when Heidi snaps at you on the sofa was she sleeping? This is very similar to what Muppet used to do. He would try to snuggle up to you or another dog but if you then dared move he would snap - without any lip curl or growl. He wasn't always asleep, he just hated being moved when he was settled. We used to call him off before moving so he wasn't in that situation.
Sounds like with the girl there were also signs there that you picked up on that Heidi wasn't happy but the young girl didn't listen. Again, this used to happen with Muppet where children would approach and wrap their arms around him!!! I could see him tense up and thankfully he was always muzzled but children really unnerved him.
You are a really experienced hound owner and fosterer and you will start to pick up on the signs or common behaviours that Heidi is unhappy with. It is still early days and it can take a while to notice (years in Muppet's case!!).
Florence who we lost over the summer also had some issues with being handled and would snap. We worked hard to make it a positive experience and avoid any negative situations where she may kick off. We were making progress with her but slowly. She had a rough start where she spent the first 18months of her life in a shed or in a very stressful home environment with lots of children. Some situations really unnerved her and she responded through snapping. It really is about trying to piece all the signs and behaviour together to work out what is stressing her out.

No Sian its not when she's sleeping, she will literally climb up beside you on the sofa (before she was banned) push her head under my arms wanting attention but then sometimes growl and snap when I stroke her Then if I stop stroking her she would nudge me again! Strange little dog she is!
