Hi everyone, I'm after some advice please if possible. I know to many of you the following won't seem like a big deal but for me it's very stressful. You see Brandy was a bit of an emergency foster and we fell for her before they got chance to have her done. She landed with us 7 weeks ago and we both idolise her. Well today I have spoken to the re homing centre and they have booked her in go get done next Thursday I know it's necessary and of course we don't want puppies but I am so so worried. The main reason for this is that 9 years ago whilst my beautiful Shadow underwent the very same operation she died on the operating table. So all I can think is the same is going to happen, I know the chances are very slim but I honestly can't help it. Also I am really worried about her aftercare. I know it sounds ridiculous but I honestly feel like a new parent I'm petrified so any advice would be hugely appreciated! Nikki, Jim & Brandy xx

So sorry you lost Shadow having routine surgery, you have every right to be worried, I think though anaesthetics have come a long way and are much safer than they were. Just make sure its a greyhound savvy vet who understands their needs. As for after care they usually recover much quicker than you would think, its keeping them quiet that's the problem. Hope the op goes smoothly for her xx

Aww, Nikki That's so sad that you lost Shadow like that, I'm not surprised you're feeling like this. Obviously you know Brandy has to have the op, and the chances of anything going wrong are tiny. As for the aftercare, you have us to help you through that. All my foster girls that have had the op have sailed through it and been fine the next day

Well my foster reggie was neutered yesterday and I have never had a dog here go through it so was worried, especially as he is a whiny wimp and far too playful. Well he's being fantastic apart from I can't stop him jumping around he came round from anaesthetic really well and so far so good

:-*Nikki it's ok to be worried they are lovely dogs but a bit fragile...however I agree with the others that they do tend to get over it quite easily... Poppy is a bit spaced out and whiney after having a GA but usually perks up after a day or two ... Don't forget there a a couple of Gappers nearby if you need any help Sally and the popster

Glad you're feeling better about it this morning. As people have already said the vast majority of dogs sail through the op ( the infamous Coco-honorary Gap chihuahua has just had it done and was her usual bouncy self the next day) but we all understand your worries based on past experience. Brandy will have the whole of Gap rooting for her-hope all goes well and make sure to update us .

Ah, I'm sure she will be fine, and how lucky is she to have landed in such a loving, caring home. Lots of love and cuddles after the op and she'll be raring to go in no time.

As others have said, you have a new support system here and nothing is too small or 'silly'. for Brandy.
