Skye is struggling again, her fears are getting on top of her. We were making slow but steady progress socialising her on the park with a few steady dogs. However at the weekend something happened, I'm not sure what, but she now point blank refuses to approach the park. She stops dead (sometimes in the middle of crossing a road) shivering with fright and can't be coaxed
On several occasions I've had to pick her up and carry her to the safety of the pavement.
Im sure it's the park, not the road. There are several routes to the park and she is the same on all of them. But quite happy to trot along the other way.
Rescue Remedy & dap have no appreciable benefit.
I'm planning to continue her pavement walks, but regret that the progress we have made with the other dogs on the park may be lost.

Whatever you do do not coddle her or reassure her! Dont speak softly to her all that will re inforce her fear. Ignore her behaviour. Change the walking pattern. Do not go to the park with her at all for a month and in the meantime get her back on rescue remedy. When you do attempt to take her to the park again in a months time take her so far towards it BUT turn back before the point you know she freezes then head off elsewhere. Do this a few times then go a few feet further again turn away and head off somewhere else. See if you can gradually ease her back into it. ANY reasurance at any point even once for a second with a dog behaving like this can be damaging for a long time x

Will try this
I know there are 2 things at play here one being her anxiety - I aldo know she's got a stubborn streak. When she has stopped in the past (without the trembling) & where it's safe to do so I just drop her lead and carry on. Clearly I can't do this by the road.
We took her to a different park today and she was geat

On the subject of Rescue Remedy
How many drops should I be giving a 25Kg dog ?
Is it best administered with a full meal or on a treat size snack
20 minutes before going out - is that about right ?

I'd just take her to other parks or places she is comfortable with for the time being and she may forget or get over her fear of the park when she finds walks and trips out are really fun.

We're off in the motorhome a couple of days to Cannock Chase so they'll all have lots of (slightly damp) fun

Check out TTouch too - that helps calm and teached them confidence ... I personally wouldn't take her anywhere where there are loose dogs who may come too close to her - that sounds too scarey for her at the moment. My Charlie was very dog aggressive, I did lots of training, went to nice training classes where he could even just sit at the back and watch with nice sweeties and eventually I started to do some Obedience shows ... that really was brill - his major fear was loose dogs running at him especially collies as they can stare/eyeball .. well there were loads of loose collies running about but either in the rings or being worked by their owners so no one came up to him and he's got braver and braver but I am still careful not to frighten him by allowing loose dogs near him .... he's met dogs off lead this year without flattening them and has played with some so he's really improved - it's taken a long time but worth it Cannock Chase will be fun (and hopefully not too damp) Julie x

We had a very nice break at Cannock - can recommend The Old Youth Hostel, a camping and caravan club site near Rugeley. We were walking out in the forest (offlead muzzle on) and came across one of the site managers, walking his JRT. Skye ran past, did a double take and ran at JRT like the Angel of Death with PMS After less than 15 seconds, they were standing 6 foot apart ignoring each other. This morning, we had a successful walk to the park, via a slightly circuitous route and Sky was o.k. we only had a slight barkage at a dog, she was also pretty good at some of the other park entries. I'm intrigued by Tellington Touch, where can I find more, without encountering charlatans and snakoil salesmen ? Cheers Allan
