Hi all More curious than anything but is it normal for a greyhound to not want to go for a walk? I went to walk Layla this morning at 740am, after the rain had stopped, any she let me put her coat, collar and lead on as usual but after we had gone 10 yards she stopped and didn't want to go any further. I gave her a gentle tug and told her to walk on, and she did for another 10 yards and stopped again. After about 100 yards of this I gave up, as even a gentle tug stopped working, and we came back home. She has been out since, at lunchtime, and she was her normal good self. I'm just wondering if my change of routine over weekend, getting a longer lie in , has caused this or can they just not want to got on days when weather is crap sometimes. Had I known I'd have stayed in bed myself!

Hi Yes Molly does this sometimes with my kids and husband. Sometimes she just CBA and stands stock still. Also she often won't go out if I am at home which obviously is just because I am so great or more likely is linked with the fact that I am a complete softy and she always gets to go to the park if I walk her. I wouldn't worry.

I wouldn't worry about it either. Greyhounds can be so stubborn and you can pull for all your worth but if they don't want to go then they're not going!! Mine won't even put a paw out if its raining and certainly wouldn't entertain going for a walk. In fact they only thing mine want to do when they wake up is eat (maybe have a quick wee if they're desperate and the weather suits them ) and then go straight back to sleep. On some days they'll get up, eat breakfast, go in the garden and do what they need to do and then that's the last we see of them until midday when they know lunch is imminent! Sian.

Nell is brilliant at the playing statues game. When she doesn't want to go we have to go home, much to Brackens annoyance. I wouldn't let it worry you she will go when she is ready x

You mentioned rain.
You DO realise greyhounds are water soluble right?! According to Nancy they'll melt if they get cold or wet or in any way separated from her sofa.

Lucky you! My three oldies would be happy to go back for another walk five minutes after we get back from one and they already go different walks three times a day anyway.

Who knows what's going on in their lovely pointy heads-I also have a hound who will go for a walk straight after he's had one, but sometimes he plays my OH up when it's time for late night turnout!

Know what goes on in Kizzie's and Perry's - rain = not moving!No1 son was here 1 night when it was raining and they refused to move.He said why didn't I just shove Perry out of the back door.I said he was welcome to try it but it's not easy moving a grey who's determined not to move.He did't try the experiment!Cath

Mine are funny with their walks aswell :/ some days the second they come in they want to go straight back out and others I have to fight them to get them to go anywhere. If its particularly hot, cold, or wet they won't usually move although they do sometimes surprise me and happily run out in odd weather.

Some ex-racers have never seen town streets, cars going thro puddles, car headlights, traffic, crowds etc etc so can get very spooked .. if they do freeze you can try tempting them along with a really high value treat but probably better and easier is to put them in the car, take them to a country walk where there are loads of nice smells and it's quieter and let them mooch along .. they do get used to their new world but you need to be sympathetic to their fear
