Dylan has done it again - another self inflicted injury whilst hooning (dew claw & attention ?)
It looks to me as though it's been damaged at the root as it's sticking out at an odd angle. No sign of it bleeding and I can touch it without him reacting, though he does spend quite a bit of time licking (not worrying at it with his teeth)
Other dew claw is perfectly fine
My initial thought would be to just bind it to help it back into position, but I'm certain that he'll remove any binding I can apply
I don't want him to have any unnecessary surgery however if it stays sticking out - it's going to keep catching on stuff and will inevitably become more damaged
If an op is needed - he'll definitely need a general anesthetic as the is no way he'll keep still
Cheers

Poor Dylan You're right if you leave it, it will continue to catch on things, I'd pop him in to see the vet who will hopefully be able to whip it off before Dylan knows it and be ready to deal with any bleeding. Take someone else with you to hold him if he's a real fidget knickers

When we gave him his 1st kennel cough dose - it took 4 of us to hold him down. He's very bendy with a slick coat and there's not much of him to hold onto

Jet managed to do that to his dew claw earlier this year. The vet whipped it off really quickly with only the minimum of fuss. He did offer to sedate Jet, but I just held him while it was done. We had to put Fucibet on it for a week and it was obviously sore when touched-and of course he managed to hit it on everything-but after a few daysJet was as right as rain. Good luck

Mou-Mou did this a few years ago and we took her to the vet where they gave a light sedative and took it off. It didn't take long and we had to clean it for a week but she was right as rain. It probably does need removing as it will catch and then become more painful. Good luck. Sian.

He's booked in for tomorrow - lets hope that it's a more pleasant experience than when he had impacted anal glands (Dylan, not the vet)
When we left, the wall of the surgery looked like a Jackson Pollock :-)

Hopefully the vet will be able to snip it off quickly - the operation to have the whole dew claw removed is huuuge and extremely painful for the dog for quite a time, so I hope it can be snipped.

Here's hoping.
It's all there but I think I can see a crack about half way down.
He's a good vet that doesn't do things that aren't necessary. I'm hoping he'll snip it and monitor for a while.
The tricky bit will be getting Dylan from the car onto the surgery table

Bracken had one off after damaging it a couple of weeks ago. He won't let you near him. He took the dressing off but luckily it's all healed. He must have caught the other one and has chewed it off today. Looks sore but won't let me near him. Hope it goes well for you tomorrow. X

Dylan update - had a visit to the vet D was most unimpressed and was crying & whimpering before we got to the car park
The vet tried to look at the claw in question, buy Dylan the wriggler was having none of it, so he was sedated
5 min later I'm carrying Dylan from the waiting room like a set of bag pipes !
then onto the surgery table for a quick Snip, mop, jab, jab, done
He's now at home slowly emerging from his stupor
