Gizzi recently had cystitis and the vet said she may have crystals which would mean a special diet. It took a lot of settling to find the right diet for her and I would be reluctant to change to one of the prescription diets. Is there anything I can do to reduce the likelihood of crystals forming?
I have started giving her a cranberry tablet with her breakfast, but any other suggestions would be welcome. Her food is Burns Pork & Potato, and she has supplements of Ev Prim, coconut oil, any tablets etc wrapped in peanut butter, and small amounts of cooked veg, egg, sardines, etc. Veg most days, egg and sardines once every 1-2 weeks.
She doesn't drink very much so I have started adding more water to her food, should it be MUCH more?

Hàve a look at burns handbook on nutrtion and probably a better idea would be,to call them espeçially if your vet only says she may hàve them not definitely. Jx

Thanks - I'd thought about doing that - you've spurred me on now so I'll do it today.

Spoken to Burns who recommend I DON'T feed more than the recommended amount. Suggest I add mixer, potatoes or porridge to increase the calories. Also said I should try a lower mineral food such as Fish & Maize. And carry on adding lots of water to food as Gizzi doesn't drink much. So I'm going to try adding Burns rice-based mixer first as I'm not sure how well she tolerates rice. Then if that goes OK I'll try moving over to the Fish & Maize food. Now she is so much more settled and relaxed I'm hoping she won't get upset tum so easily. I really hope the mixer works, as when we are away I don't want my holiday to be mainly cooking up porridge and potatoes.
Wish me luck...
