Jimmy is 10 next month and although he has always been a grumbly misog,I've noticed in the last few weeks he seems even more so. I'm thinking of putting him on cod liver or evening primrose oil tablets. Does anyone prefer one or the other, or would putting him on both be OK for his system.

I tried them. I found slimy half melted stinky capsules hidden all over I opened the capsules and squirted it onto their food No one ate it I gave up I know some dogs do seem to like them but not here. EPO is good for skin and fur but my vet recommended Cod liver oil for joints and I had a GSD years ago who had a transformation after giving him it alternate days as advised by the vet. Even the vet thought he was literally a different dog when I took him back. Have you thought of a joint supplement with glucosamine in as well? Good luck

I used to give my springers Vitapet oil, especially when they were older and had dandruff. An internet friend , who used epo, ran out and was given some Vitapet by her father, said it made her dogs' coats even better and vowed to use it.
My springers loved it and would lick it from a bowl or spoon. it is expensive in bottles, as they no longer retail gallon cans, but when my last two cavaliers were elderly, I contacted Seven Seas, who sold me an export 4 litre tin at an excelnt price, with no P&P.
I'm tempted to get more, now these two are getting on, but don't want to overdo the fish oil as they have Fish4dogs complete and jerky chews.(Too much causes the runs, as I found when Teddy stole extras)

I put a cod liver oil tablet in bith pebbles and egors dinner and have never had and problems with them not eating them. If I ever forget I usually just put it in a little bit of meat and pretend its a treat. I dont think they liked them to much at first but gave them a big fuss when they ate them and now no problems
Hope this helps.

Mine have EPO daily, wrapped in peanut butter, on top of their food. They eat so quickly they don't notice. I give any medication in same way. However our previous dog, spaniel/lurcher, wasn't fooled so easily.

I've used Synflex, Neem capsules, Cortaflex, Ester C, Green Lipped Mussels and a few others at various times and all were good for the dog that needed them - they don't always help every dog so I had to try different things Charlie's now about 10 or even 11 and has just been diagnosed with a creaky elbow ...I've made sure he's having one Neem Multi capsule daily as its got Tumeric in (natural steroid without side effects and anti inflammatory etc etc) and he seems back to manic LOL. I've also been giving him and Lucy some Yumega Boost as Lucy's coat could have been better and it had a probiotic in so it would help her digest her food better .. both of them seem to have improved on it as I think as they age digestion and everything else slows down (mine does ) . Yumega do a product called Yumove and one for working dogs which I'll try when I have some money for creaky dogs. Julie x

Didn't think about using it for joints etc etc. I'll read up about it. Sammy's previous owners sent Yumove with him and swear by it. So that's something else to look at.

Mine love their evening primrose oil tablets (they tried stealing the bottle off me to eat like treats) and along with grooming changes their dandruff is a million times better! but I also give a glucosamine supplement the vet recommended for their joints and my two seem happy but they are only four so apart from their racing injuries and clumsiness I don't have to worry too much about them.

Um, I need to get on top of maks joints, hes 7 now and groans quite a bit. I think he's quite achy. The vet gave him tablets but they made no Difference.
So, what do people think would it make sense to give him turmeric neem powder to brush his teath ( I imagine they digest it too so that would help with his joints) and the codliver oil and evening primrose oil I already have ?

I started using Neem powder in December as Jimmy had horrendous teeth and gums. The vet saw him for the first time last night and couldn't believe how they had improved since she saw him last. I asked her advice about joints etc etc and she recommended Synoquin EFA from Vets Plus. So as well as the things you guys have recommended, I've got a few to decide on.
