Took our Molly (spaniel) out today and she suddenly started holding her front leg up, at first a slight limp so we set off back to the car - we're home now she wont put any weight through her leg and cries if she does put it down, however she is letting us touch her and manipulate her leg and still wagging her tail! There's nothing in her pads, no obvious swelling but she's obviously in pain - poss shoulder? Anything I can do/give her 'til I can get her to the vets (if necessary)?

The vet'll probably want to see how bad she is and what she can tolerate which a pain killer would mask ...it might be a bruised sole if she's run on the ice or snow so you could give her Arnica if you've got any which is good for bruising and maybe stand her so her foot's in luke warm salt water in case there's a wound in her pads/foot otherwise keep her warm and as still as a spaniel can be in case she's torm muscles or ligaments ..
Hope she's ok

Just posted a very similar thread myself, I should have check the board first..
Same with Alex, just started to hold his front paw up, and he will yell in pain when he jumps off the bed. He will let me feel around, and all seems fine...
Wondering whether it could be arteritis, same maybe with molly?

Molly is home from vets after x rays under general.. Nothing obvious but she isn't weight bearing at all, so she's on complete crate rest and anti inflams.. Molly is an extremely active spaniel so its going to be difficult, especially when we go up to see her on Sunday with our two
