I am glad though that in the main she is stronger and doing better than she was x Don't worry Lisa, she's getting what she needs but I'd just like to know how other dogs have progressed, thanks x I just wish I could click my fingers and have the old Sapphy back I know I need to be patient but it's hard

Vicky... Murphy was diagnosed with IMPA in Jan 2009. It took an extremely long time to get him stablised but for the last 10 months he has maintained his lowest dose of preds (5mg every other day) and is as fit, healthy and happy as he's ever been. It's been a long and rocky road with a number of relapses, some more serious than others and there have been some very worrying times. We know his signs and symptoms and can react immediately to the slightest indication that things are not as they should be. Every case is different and every dose reduction programme will differ. The golden rule for us was very slowly. We didn't get the right does for a long time and through trial and some error we have found the idea levels for him. He did have combination Preds/Aza (about 4/5 months after treatment started) but he did not respond at all well to Aza and was very poorly indeed with heavily suppressed bone marrow. Regular bloods on Aza are essential. That said, many do well with Aza and it can really help, Murph is just odd! Our specialist (who I ended up losing all faith in and ended up having a bit of a barney with) also suggested he'd be heading towards Cushings. As it turned out we just needed to be patient, watch, learn and trust our instincts. There seems to be a tendancy to rush things with IMPA where in realitty it can take a fair old while to get things right. I could ramble on for hours (and have done on many occassions) but rather than bore you all to tears here, if you want to have a chat about it let me know. One step forward and two back sounds very familiar but you and Sapphy will get there... it took us over three years to get where we are but but it was worth the wait to have him back to his normal gittish self

Thanks Ali. I would love to have a chat and you most certainly wouldn't bore me to tears. I do remember Murphy being very ill and you spending what seemed like forever sleeping downstairs with him. Glad that he's doing so well even though it has taken so long
