Hello, My lovely Nancy has just been diagnosed with pancreatitis. We don't know yet how serious it is, her symptoms seem to have improved in the last couple of days since she has had anti biotics, in that she's no longer being sick and she seems happier in herself. We are waiting for the results of some further blood tests which will be back on Monday. Until then I wondered whether anyone has any advice? I know its important that she has a low fat diet and for the next week she is having turkey and pasta/rice. I'm having difficulty working out the percentage fat in food we have in. What amounts to low fat? I read somewhere on here that less than around 8%? She is very fussy with food and wouldn't eat fish for dogs or wafcol salmon and potato. She has been eating applaws senior but I've stopped that. Any tips would be much appreciated. Tina x

Deltas doing really well on Wainwrights wet food which is 3 1/2% fat, its the turkey and rice low fat one (35% less fat) She has one tray twice a day and is finally off her meds as her bloods returned to normal last time they were took.
She never had any sickness though, she just went off her food and refused to go for walks and if she did she shook and trembled and was reluctant to walk. She also did lots of stretching so her little tum must have been hurting her.

Hello!
Baxter got diagnosed with pancreatitis back in August 2011. He was very ill and was hospitalised on a drip etc... As you know a low fat diet is they key, kibble has to be 8% or less, wet/tinned needs to be 4% or less. Treats, I treat the same as wet food 4% or less. As Sue said wainwrights do a reduced fat wet food, they also to a Tuna sachet which is very low too. Other than that I mince and cook chicken, turkey breasts, lentils and veg in trays ( like a meat loaf) cut into portions, freeze and defrost when needed. Sweet potatoes baked in the oven and added to kibble Baxter loves. I only give him fish 4 dogs treats and some times rawhide, you can get dried chic breast treats from pets at home. The kibble bax is now eating is Burns chic and rice, it's 7.5%, for the first 12 months he was on Royal canin gastro intestinal low fat kibble 7% and did extremely well in it, very expensive, some say a rip off but I feel that if it suits your poorly dog then nothing is a rip off! He also eats white fish.
I can't think of anything else at the moment but any questions please ask.
Xxx

Yes Delta has also had the other wainwrights food in the sachets, tune and rice I think it is, she also has fish4dogs treats too. Butchers have also brought out a lowfat tinned food now that's only 2.5% fat, I bought Delta some for a change although she leaves all the peas and carrots in her dish She also loves her chicken breasts and rice and boiled fish too.

Trixie had the Royal canin digestive low fat diet (cheaper on the net than from the vet) and did really well on it. She had several severe bouts of it. When she was bad she had just chicken or fish then if she was ok and kept it down I added rice or potato. She had cans of Applaws to add interest to the kibble as it's very low fat but is very expensive for a bigger dog. I was hospitalised with it myself years ago and put on a morphine drip, it's incredibly painful and I found that virtually any fat would set the pain off for a long time so I really sympathise with dogs with it. Hope Nancy's soon back to normal

Thanks for the advice and good thoughts everyone. Will look into the wainwrights food and the others mentioned. I have a big box of fish for dogs treats from when it was on special offer so will save those for Nancy now.
Where did you get the recipe for the meatloaf 'alexandsteve'? Sorry I don't know your name!
