Does anyone know how to change the details registered to a micro chip?
I am embarrassed to say we have never changed our dogs' microchips, so Lela is still registered to Gap, and Sammy is registered to a pound (I think). I don't know where to start with this. Do I need to somehow find out the micro chip company they are registered to?
They do always wear their tags with full details, but I realise these may come off if they ever get lost....

I have 4 GAP dogs all registered to GAP. As Sam has said above if you have GAP dogs there is no need to do anything other than keep Gap informed of your details. For those with non GAP dogs other charites are not all so good and I also take in temporary fosters for the Cinnamon Trust when their owners have to go into hospital and they reccommended I register a temporary interest whilst those dogs are with me. There are four pet registers in the UK, if you look on this site www.petlog.org.uk they will let you know which one your dog is registered with. If you contact them they do not allow you to change ownership details but you can add your name, address and telephone number as secondary or temporary contacts. Maryx

Is that true even for Sammy, who was chipped in the pound before he came to Gap? Flaperoo, thanks for the additional information. I can try to add secondary details just in case.

Our local dog wardens changed the chip details on Nancy's chip for us - we'd taken her to a low-cost microchipping session they ran, they'd found she was already chipped but with no details registered so just put the change through for us themselves... seemed to be picking up a lot of dogs in similar situations who needed chip details altering and doing them at that session as well.

Great idea to keep the chips registered to Gap ... we've had some RGT dogs picked up but their chip details have not been altered so no way of tracining their owners now ...if they wanted to be traced ....
