Hi all,
Jack is a 3 year old whippet we've had for 10 months. He has gradually become more and more obsessed with Blue greyhound's wee and willie! To the point that Blue will be having a wee, and Jack is millimetres behind trying to get in there and lick it. He constantly follows him round the house, with his head in Blue's bits.
Blue has put up with it so far (bit of a grin on his face!) but it seems to be getting worse. He's also quite territorial over the outside of the house, will stand int the upstairs windows and howl if another dog walks by, and very very shouty at certain dogs when out on walks (usually big hairy dogs, like a malamute and German shepherd that live nearby.)
Jack has 1 testicle still, he had one removed as a puppy as it didn't descend, but the vet advised the previous owner to keep the other in tact. I'm wondering if getting it removed may help? Anyone had the same experience? How can we get him to stop licking Blue's bits?

I would imagine that Jack not being castrated makes urine and dog scents much more interesting to him

I'd stop Blue getting to the upstairs window if poss and reduce the howling but more definitely you need to have the undescended testicle removed as they usually turn cancerous never mind they're usually blamed for naughty behaviour . I read an article somewhere where a vets were using ultrasound to find the missing testicle before they operated as it can be a tricky op to find the testicle but ultrasound pin points it so less risk to the dog, it's quicker and a lot cheaper J xx

I don't really understand though why the rescue didn't castrate and remove both testicles Its usually the missing one that gets left and like you say that is a real risk of causing testicular cancer internally....but there is a risk of cancer by not getting a normally descended one removed through castration and one of the reasons why as a rescue (in addition to the risk of causing unwanted litters) we are such strong proponents of castration

That's the way I read it too Sam. I don't understand why a vet would advise leaving a testicle? Whop 'em off, that's what I say! Helen x

hi all thanks for replies. sorry, i should have explained better. the undecended testicle was removed but he still has the other. he seems to be behaving like a randy teenager following blue around, with his head constantly in blues bits!
i think we may well get him booked in to get the other one removed.

Sorry chaps .. my fault for not re-reading it .. you're quite right (Blame my age, senility, eyesight whatever LOL) Odd they took the one off and not the other but agree that to have the other done would be sensible ... I used to have an old farmer friend who had lots of useful homely sayings .. my favourite (and I will have a tee shirt made) was ' Never trust anything with testicles' ... LOL J xx

That is what happens to any male dogs that cross our threshold!! Joking aside, as others have said, I don't know why the vet left one testicle, if he was my dog I would have it removed, he will feel a lot better without all those hormones raging around! Joy X
