Does anyone have advice about corns please? Our Ben had a corn removed under anaesthetic last November and although it has healed up, there is still a rough mark on his pad and he is still limping slightly. I have been advised to try Homeopathic medicine which I have been doing but I am still not sure whether to take him to a Greyhound Vet for advice. The vet who did the operation is not a Greyhound vet and said that if he had further trouble then Ben may have to have his toe off. I am not sure what to do next.

Daniel Doherty has his own treatment for corns (he is a greyhound vet) which quite a few people have found has helped their greyhounds: www.myvet24-7.co.uk/

I've tried all the options now with corns Joe had one removed, it returned so he had his toe removed (Joe is a nightmare at the vets, changing dressings alone he needs sedation so toe removal was to end all his problems), that was until he got one on the next toe on, he had it removed, it came back Jake had one removed which never returned then had another removed which came back, I then tried homeopathic treatment which did seem to improve it a lot. After knowing what I know now I would never have another one removed as it just seems such a lengthy process from removal and numerous dressing changes and then they come back. I would however recommend Therapaw boots which Joe now wears and are fantastic. They are very hardwearing and stop him limping completely on walks.

Rudy has had many corns and several removed undwer anaesthetic or sedation.I have tried a homeopathic remedy wth good results, although he des still get corns. We have decided not to put him through anaethesia again, instead we use the homeopathic remedy and pair the corn away ourselves.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I will carry on with the homeopathic remedy "Thuja" for a while. The only problem is, I have resorted to giving Ben the tablets in a small piece of food as it takes two of us to pop the tablet into his mouth as the tablets are not supposed to be handled and then just when we think that he has swallowed it - out it comes. I have also scraped the corn with a nail emery board. We did buy a Therapaw boot but first of all he wouldn't walk with it on and then when we did get him to walk with it on, it fell off. We have some cheaper boots but they do wear out quite quickly. I will try the Therapaw boot again, although when we walk over the country park which is all muddy paths and grass he doesn't limp.

Usually they can walk OK on grass and soft surfaces but need a Therapaw boot for hard surfaces. I think the current greyhound thinking is that removing them doesn't usually work, but I think I read somewhere that people have used human corn preparations with some success - it may have been an earlier thread on here.
Anyway I've already decided that if mine get corns I will just manage it and avoid operations.

I have just got out the Therapaw boot and will persevere with Ben with the boot, although he is hardly limping now, just very slightly occasionally on a hard surface. He has been having the Thuja tablets for about 3-4 weeks now and tincture on his pad. He doesn't mind having the pad rubbed with the emery board and was very good when he had the corn removed last November and just lay there while we changed the bandage etc. I have also read about using Bazuka gel on the corns but don't know anyone that has used it. Although a lady who I met on a greyhound walk the other week said that she was going to try it on her dog so if I see her again I will ask her if she has done.

I used 'Bazuka that verruca' stuff on GAP lurcher boy Sonny's corn a couple of years back and it did work though the corn came back eventually. It came back much quicker the first time when the vet removed it though.
