Apparently she is in now in labour, no news of puppies yet. I am still worried sick, though, because friend insists that there is no need of a vet's attention. She won't get the bitch spayed afterwards because she sees her as an opportunity to make money, hence second litter straight after the first. The whole situation is a nightmare but I assume the RSPCA can't do anything about it, although the dogs -'labradoodles' - are never walked, they are fed and kept in reasonable condition, mainly inside the house with a proper run with shelter etc outside. So I assume that would be regarded as pretty good care in terms of what they have to deal with. All I can do now is hope that there are healthy puppies and healthy mum, will feel so awful if there aren't.

Another sad thing is that people will pay silly money for these cross breeds designer dogs. Poodle-cross-labrador gives labradoodle, but breeding two of these could lead to all kinds of combinations, that will look nothing like the parents. Will people wanting a non-shedding dog reject the ones who do moult? The number in rescues says 'yes'.

Still no puppies, dog still panting, hasn't been seen by a vet. I hope I have done all I can. Hanging on to the idea that I know nothing about it and it will all be alright.

Claire that is crazy, that dog needs vet help now and if your friend doesn't get her to a vet she is going to lose her bitch and all the puppies if she hasn't already. It sounds to me as though her birth canal could be blocked by a large puppy. Each puppy is in its own amniotic sack and the fluid she lost the other day could have been from a puppy blocking the birth canal.

Poor poor dog I wonder if your friend was in labour she'd be happy to be left to her own devices?? Claire it must be so difficult for you but I honestly think I would be very blunt with her, does she really want to risk the bitch and the puppies lives too? Good luck

This bitch is in trouble. Big trouble. If waters and plugs have been moving since New Year and she has been panting for over 24hrs with no live births its sounds like there are dead puppies blocking the way. She needs veterinary attention now. This IS now an animal welfare issue and the RSPCA cruelty line should act. If she carries on attempting labouring iwithout veterinary intervention she is going to die as are any live puppies behind what still to me sounds like a blocking with infection. If the dead puppies are necroptic then she will be carrying a very heavy infection.

Sorry, I am sure some of you must have had this dog on your minds as much as I have by now - but my internet broke at about 11pm and I couldn't get back on line In the end, I rang the RSPCA who told me that I must instruct her to ring the vet and that if she would not do so I was to ring them back and they would send an officer - as you say Lisa they said that by this stage it had reached a point where the law was being broken in terms of the dog being exposed to unnecessary suffering. Long story short everything was sorted. Puppies are delivered and well, their mum is okay too. Downside is that their owner thinks she knows what she is doing, has already got buyers for the puppies and it will therefore not be very long before the bitch is put through the whole thing again. The thought of which is reducing me to tears. Thank you all so much for your support, you gave me the courage to ring the RSPCA, because I know nothing about whelping and the owner had done it before, I kept thinking that maybe I was wrong and didn't want to cause a fuss about nothing. I know people have bad dealings with the RSPCA too, but on this one they were faultless. I thank God it all turned out okay this time but still full of rage that the people buying these dogs could go to one of hundreds of rescues and save a dog's life and that while she can get hundreds of £s each, the owner will keep doing this to the bitch.

Well done Claire. The owner of the bitch has been very very lucky, but as you say she won't realised that. You did all you could and there are many people who would have looked the other way. Let's just hope the homes she has lined up are good ones.

Well done Claire. It was a very difficult situation for you to be in. Thank god she is ok. Wish the mum could be rescued and have a lovely life with somebody that did not want to use her as a money making machine.

Really glad it all worked out ok this time. I fear though that people who breed designer dogs for money caree little for the dogs Well done Claire - you handled a very sensitive situation well. Maryx

Well done Claire, you've handled a difficult situation sensitively, and can really do no more.
It's a shame so many folk are so willing to pay silly money for these mongrels under the misapprehension that they are 'designer' breeds.
It's also a shame that this silly money causes such appalling greed, as well.
Claire, do you have any dogs of your own?
