Pippa is a whippet and has been wearing her fleecy PJs a lot because she really feels the cold. I have noticed that she is bold on her underneath. Could this be because the PJs have been rubbing her fur and have gradually worn away her hair or could it be something that I need to worry about. Will take her to the vet next week but I was hoping that somebody on here may have experienced something similar and may be able to offer some useful info. It does seem to be where they would rub her.

I honestly don't thing it's anything to worry about. Lots of greyhounds and whippets have baldy tummies, thighs etc. Maybe the jammies are rubbing her a bit, but if she's warm and happy, that's the important thing Helen x

Our foster whippet has a baldie belly and chest and he never wore a coat or PJ's until he came here. Unless the skin is red and irritated, it's unlikely the hair loss is due to rubbing. If it is red and sore, leave off the clothing, or look for something softer or with the seams in an different place. It's not unusual for pointy dogs to have bald bits, there are lots of thoughts as to why, but it's not usually anything to worry about if the dog is in good health generally Emma x

It might just be worth asking for a blood test. Buddy has always had badly thighs and tummy but his fur seemed to be thinning elsewhere and he has been diagnosed with an under active thyroid gland. He's been on medication for a couple of months now.x

Thank you so much. Was worried she had parasites or something. I do think it is from her pjs. Have started wrapping her in a blanket rather then her having her pjs on all the time

Cara is a whippet cross, she has a baldy belly, like others have said it's not unusual for sighthounds to have bald bits and it doesn't mean anything is wrong, especially if her skin is normal. It also makes blowing raspberries much more fun

Daisy is fairly hairless underneath too - belly and inner thighs definitely and chest very very fine hair which at times seems almost bald too - as Gazer says all the better for rasberries
