As many of you know we are fostering the lovely Flower at the moment . She was very shut down when she arrived from kennels but is now a very happy greyhound with her family. However, she has started to chew. Firstly the dog beds, then Craig's X-box games and today I came home to a CD and case. She doesn't destroy some things, e.g. she will collect slippers on her bed and the draught excluder ;D. I believe she lived in kennels before, so has had to adjust to home life. At 10 years old she is having a second (or maybe first) puppy hood ;D. We can't move everything, so any advice? She had a dental when she was spayed, so I don't think it's her teeth. Cheers, Bev

Cant offer any help ,sorry, as you know Ben is from the same place, he does play a lot with all the toys and will destroy them when he feels like it, he will occasionally move slippers but doesnt chew them, but most of the time he has Faiths head and neck in his mouth but as you say he is also in his first puppyhood, hope Flower gets over it soon. paulx

Oh Flower As you know Bev, our little Twirly has smelly manky teefs and gums so has regular dentals, but she has gingivitis pretty much all of the time even when her teath are gleaming. We find that she chews - any cardboard she can find, mainly - when her gingivitis is really flaring . She'll kind of scrape her teeth down the side of a box (rather than ripping chunks off) so we've guessed that it must be soothing and maybe scratch her gums somehow? Just an idea Jo x

Jo have you tried neem powder for Twirlies gums? Juno's gums bled so bad when she landed here and I couldnt clean her teeth, after a week of rubbing neem powder on them with my finger the bleeding stopped. Willow also has crap teeth and gums but they never bleed now since using neem daily

We have some determined chewers here as well. The only thing we've found to satisfy them are smoked bones www.moreforpets.ltd.uk/smoked-bones-dogs-p-848.html We let them have a good gnaw when we are about, then take them away to keep them high value. An hours good chomp tires their jaws and they settle for a looooong nap after that

I dread to think how bad they'd be without that!
