On a few occasions Gizzi has let out a quiet sort of yelp, 2 or 3, after a run. She will just stand there and then yelp quietly. Then within a minute or so she just carries on with her walk.
Do you think it could be cramp - or the greyhound equivalent of a stitch? She recovers quite quickly but doesn't want to run any more.
When we were on holiday in Norfolk she was running on the beach and was fine. However she only ever wants to run 2-3 times a week. She will be 5 in Feb and never raced. She has lived with us for 15 months now but this has only happened about 4 times.

For me I'd book her in to a McTimoney chiropractor to check her over (Google it to find a local one) - the racers have retired (or not raced) for a reason and it's usually that they're too slow ... for all I hear of Cramp I think it's either an unfit dog doing too much, an imbalance in foods so you get serious Cramping or Acidosis or there's an underlying problem .. I like my dogs to be as healthy as possible so if she's used to being off lead, she's not hurt her feet to explain the yelp I'd spend £20 on a chiropractic check - even if to 'cross it off' as an explanation ... In my experience greys love to run and do it most days tho just for a max of about 10 mins then are happy pootling about.
Best wishes
Julie

I'm familiar with chiropractors, but what does a McTimoney practitioner do?
Re Gizzi being unraced - she was the result of an accidental mating - and of the 4 pups registered only one had 12 races, nothing for the other 3. Apparently the trainer had a traumatic personal problem at this time so this may be the reason for not racing.
She had a run today in the park and was fine (as she usually is) but I think the reason she doesn't run much is because she is an only dog. Today the wind was blowing leaves around and it made her a bit skittish so off she went. But she is only off lead for a short period each time and not every day as sometimes we walk through farmland and there are occasionally hares about.

Hiya McTimoney is a form of chiropractic but the method was invented by James McTimoney- it's very gentle- just quick flicks to release muscles but very effective ... the chiro I go to isn't a McTimoney and she does lots of crunching and twisting arrms and legs LOL I rarely use vets (tho my vet is also a McTimoney chiro ) but always use McTimoney chiros for my animals and my dogs are very active and healthy I find that they tweak muscles etc just zooming about so mine have regular 'maintenance' checks before things get to be a big problem Worth a check up Best wishes Julie

Brooke sometimes lets out a yelp when running - she tends to catch her dew claw - a kiss from Mummy and she's fine again.

Thanks for your suggestions - I thought it was probably muscular, never thought about it being a dew claw. As always when I post I thought someone else might have had the same experience. I'll try for a McTimoney to see if anything is revealed.
I don't want to go to the vets with this as they will never see it happen so I expect they would just be taking my money for trying things!
