Solly has developed a cyst on one of his toes. At present he is on anitbiotics & Metacam. Been for a check up this morning & decided to keep him on said treatment for another week. Talk with the vet went down the lines, if it doesn't burst & the swelling of his toe does not go down he needs to go in for investigation. Worst case being he may lose his toe. Is this common precedure & can cysts keep reoccuring. Thanks guys

Herbie and Skye have both had cysts.. although not on their toes and yes they can re ocur and are a flaming nuisance. They have both had them removed and some stay away but others have come back. If the infection doesnt clear then yes I could imagine they could lose their toe but hopefully it wont come to that for Solly and that he will improve! Herbie also has an infection in his dew claw toe at the moment and the vet has already warned us that if it doesnt subside he will lose his toe too... so lets hope both our black numpties keep their tooties!

I had a springer bitch who had lots as she grew older. She had just the one removed , as it was large and on her rump, so was constantly knocked and became infected.
One of my cavaliers had one on his forehead, just where my collis cross had a cancer, so I panicked with the young vet who said it had to come off urgently. However, the boss vet said it was just a fatty cyst, was doing no harm and would be difficult to remove anyway.

I remember one of our dogs having what the vet called an interdigital cyst inbetween his toes, we bathed it with salt water and it burst

I've just got rid of Anna's stubborn interdigital cyst by soaking it in Dead Sea Magic salt three times a day. I tried ordinary salt for two weeks but it didn't shift so as a last resort tried the Dead Sea salt. It went in a week

My vet said it was better to use block or cooking salt, as table salt contains a chemical to make it flow. I suspect the modern cooking salt does too and haven't seen block salt for years.

Thanks for all your advise. Have been in hospital for a few days & when I came home last night Solly is a lot better on his foot. Alan said he wasn't limping very much & the toes is less swollen & the cyst is going down So fingers crossed
