Hi all
Just wanted to pick your collective brains re the best raincoats for greys. My two have got a Blizzard each (thick fleece lining) but they can get too hot on mildish days when it's pouring. I had a thinner version (waterproof nylon with a cloth lining) for my old grey but, again, he used to get too hot in it.
I've been looking at the Equafleece range of coats which are breathable, but they are just fleece and I wonder if these would be too permeable!
Any ideas? What do other people use?
Thanks

I also have a fleece lined Blizzard coat for my rough coat lurcher which she only needs if we are standing around for a long time on a day out. I also have a Blizzard raincoat for her and she runs around like a mad thing without getting too hot. Equafleece and breathable coats sound like a good idea BUT bear in mind that they designed to wick moisture from the inside to the out. This is very important for horses as they sweat and the sweat would otherwise keep the horses skin wet and cold. Dogs don't sweat so I think that a breathable would be a waste of money and technology. I don't know but suspect that type of coat would be at least as warm as your Blizzard coats. In fairness a breathable coat would be excellent if used on a wet dog after exercise as it would both keep the dog warm and dry it off. I bought my Blizzard coats through the GRWE shop on its website as a proportion of the sale goes directly to their rescue.

Try kitsch collars. We just got a lightweight raincoat from there for our lurcher and it is lovely.

I got a breathable rain coat with a mesh lining from K9 Voyager in the States. Very expensive if the Customs stop it - but it is really good, with a snood and pleats at the front for ease of movement.
Have seen the Kitsch Collars ones on the website and they look good - would deffo have got one if I didn't already have my K9, but they started doing them after I got mine.

I use a Blizzard when it's raining hard and is cold, I have a waterproof sheet which sounds like your old dog's coat with the cotton lining and I use that if it's too warm for the Blizzard (I've used that most of this summer which is good cos it's one of those reflective coats to keep them cool in sun ) I use Thermatex coats which if I remember are the same as Equfleece when mine get wet .. Thermatex allows them to dry off without getting a chill -like James says they wick the moisture away from the dog and it sits on the outside of the coat so you just take the coat off, shake off the wet and put it back on the dog to keep it warm not chilled If you put a normal dog coat on a wet dog it takes ages for the dog to dry off. I think Eqafleece are showerproof but no more .. tho lovely and warm I tend to layer the dogs up so I can take off layers if it gets warmer or they're cold Part of the fun of having hounds J x

DC2H from here (scroll down, red on the left_ www.jansgifts.co.uk/list.php?type_id=111really light, just thin nylon kagool, can roll up to fit in a pocket. Good to put over a warmer non waterproof coat too. My lot have 7 equafleece tankies, jumpers and a bodysuit between them. They are absolutely waterproof, been out in rain and rolled in snow in them and not a drop has gone through. Light, warm, never seem to get too hot, wash well and dry very quickly. Can even tumble dry on cool if you're in a hurry. Also got 2 k9 voyager macs and agree with ritab that they are fantastic but very expensive now. We got them a few years back when the exchange rate made them much more affordable.

Mine have got Equifleeces. Eva has been out in the rain today in hers and she was warm and dry underneath. Never had her out in torrential rain wearing it, but it was fine in common or garden rain ;D Must say I do love them.... pity Merlin munched through his the first time on, grrrrr Hx

Ive got Greyhound Coat Company rain coats. They are orange with mesh liner and reflective stripes. I find them really good and can go over warmer non-waterproof coats in cold weather. The only problem for some may be that he only does sizes 26" and larger so may be too big for some lurchers. All his coats are made from super, moderm materials and are very reasonably priced and high quality. Incidently I have no interest in this company other than being a very satisfied customer.
