Just been walking with my friend and her whippet, Rosie has always suffered during the summer months with her skin where she scratches like mad and her coat goes all greasy and looks really dull. They've had her to the vets every year and had her on antihistamines, this year she had a antihist. jab but I've never seen her look so bad. The vets have said they could do tests to find out exactley what it is she is allergic to but she said she can't see the point if they can't treat it. When they go away on holiday she is so much better but when they get home it starts again. Jill has asked me to ask you peeps if you have any ideas what she could try. I did say that I'd heard about Bobgrass?? Am I right and what exactley is it?

Teddy has unknown allergies (we had the tests, but they can't cover everything). Antihistamines did nothing, but a short burst of steroids did. He is on Atopica, but despite this has annual falre ups. They are usually in October, but arrived in late August this time. There are no marks on his skin, unless he self inflicts them by licking or scratching.

Bob Grass is an ointment, which I've used on cuts, but it contains sulphur and STINKS ;D I personally don't think it's the sort of treatment you could use all over an itchy dog.
Mayo has had problems with mysterious itchiness for a few years now. We think it's a pollen/spore allergy and in the past, he too has had a burst of low dose steroids. It's not ideal, but if it's only for the Summer months and means they're happy I think it's worth trying.

If Teddy gets a particular hotspot, a squirt of Virbac's dermacool helps.

I took Nico to the vet fairly recently after his scratching continued, we'd tried the usual; anal glad, flea/lice/mite stuff, changed his collar but the vet thinks it pollen int he air and advised us to wipe him down after walks. We could look at steroids orally or as a spray but I've left it for now as it's never that bad. (his coat still looks fine)
However if it does start to bother him more I'll probably look towards Homeopathy treatment to see if that works. Do you know if Gill's tried that?

Snoop came out in a rash a couple of weeks ago & I noticed eventually that it was getting worse on a particular walk where they chased in the long grass. He has been fine there until recently so I guess it is just when something in the grass has more pollen? We stopped walking there but also got Yumega oil from the vets. It is supposed to help allergic dogs (which he is - he has food allergies too & I have to feed raw) and I really think his coat has picked up since he has had it. Also got a shampoo but haven't plucked up courage ot convinced the O/H to help me bath him ;D
